one of the best 80's bands and album,

This review is from: Mania (Audio CD)
I have one complaint - WHEN WILL THEIR FIRST ALBUM BE RELEASED!The Lucy Show is one of the coolest bands to come out of the 80's and sadly mainly people don't know them. Unfortunately their music has never been available on cd either until Mania's release last year. If you're lucky enough to run into this cd, do yourself a musical favor and pick it up. If you don't know the band they were fronted by Mark Bandola and Rob Vandeven who shared vocal duties and lyric writing as well. The result is a nice mix of variable sounding tracks that have great melody, harmony and a great 80's pop sound. At times they remind me of Jesus and the Mary Chain, the Cure or the Psychedelic Furs. I think the best tracks are the "Sun and Moon", "Land and the Life" and "A Million Things". A few songs aren't as strong like "New Message" and " Sojourn's End", but overall it's got a great sound and some cool extras like "Jam in E" and several live cuts. It's a shame they didn't stay together longer. Here's hoping they release their first album "Undone" which I think is an even better album and one the best to be released in the 80's.

in all its murky beauty, post beatles, postpunk, part cure part bunnymen, alltotally brilliant playing singing writing, the lucy show's "mania" is an album of very very accomplished, moving songs--a classic, a match for their astonishing debut, "Undone," and then some. the pop songs--skipalong, hop along, peppy loveliness--are lilting, rocking, bopping janglefests (with a number of great dark touches); the balladry's first rate as well (the simplicity of "part of me now" and "sad september" are magic, ace, NICE. this is one incredible band. forget about "forgotten"--the lucy show's time has come again. i am biased. i was obsessed with them for years. i saw them play to 8 people in a very small southern california club in 1987 and i could not believe them--they played as though they were gigging for 8 million. a band i adore, the black watch, supposededly formed the day after they say the lucies as well; score TWO! this is a great release for anyone who likes melody and catchiness--i.e. YOU! but this buy this buy this!!!!!
