From the Inside Flap

It's almost impossible to turn on the business channel or read the financial pages these days and not find a story about the next commodity that's breaking an all-time price record. From an outsider's perspective, however, commodity markets can be intimidating or even scary. To most people, these fast-paced markets conjure up images of high-risk investing in an environment of absolute chaos. But, as expert commodities trader Kevin Kerr says, where else can you sell something you don't own, buy it back half an hour later, and walk away with 100% profit?

In A Maniac Commodity Trader's Guide to Making a Fortune, Kerr dispels the common myths and misconceptions about these markets, offering an insider's view of what he calls "the last bastion of pure capitalism on Earth." Whether you're a novice or an experienced trader, Kerr's down-to-earth, clear-cut guidance will make you more savvy, more confident, and more able to jump right in and grab those profit opportunities that are waiting for you.

Kerr shares the insights, techniques, and trading tricks that he's learned through his years of rough-and-tumble experience in the commodities markets—experience you can build on without having to endure all the pain. He explains all the basics: how these markets function, how locals in the pit work, what those strange-looking order acronyms mean, and which markets are thinly traded and tightly controlled, as well as delving into the all-important psychology of the market. Even if you don't know preferred stock from livestock, this book will show you what you need to know to have a working understanding of what really goes on in those chaotic trading pits—and how you can make it work to your advantage.

Kerr shares the pitfalls and successes of his long career, showing you how to take huge profits from movements in markets you've only heard of, but were afraid to trade, and succeed beyond your wildest dreams. Kerr—proudly known to many as "The Maniac Trader"—demystifies the language and ritual of the commodity markets, shows the basics of fundamental analysis, explains how market makers create pricing, and much more. Read this book and you'll agree that adding commodities to your portfolio is a sure way to capitalize on some of the most rewarding, exciting investment opportunities available today.

Few investment vehicles offer the excitement, flexibility, and tremendous profit opportunities of commodities. A Maniac Commodity Trader's Guide to Making a Fortune will introduce you to an asset class that promises to be a vital part of your portfolio. --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

From the Back Cover

Praise for A MANIAC COMMODITY TRADER'S GUIDE TO MAKING A FORTUNE

"Kevin Kerr has the keenest instincts of any commodities trader I've ever met. His recommendations are money in the bank. This book is your passport to the exciting, frantic, frustrating, and potentially enormously rewarding world of futures trading. Do you want to make money in futures and options? Read this book and let a master show you not only how to trade, but how to trade to win."

—Sean Brodrick, Editor, MoneyandMarkets.com

"Any old trader can throw money into the commodity pits, although why do you think that they call them 'pits'? With Kevin Kerr as your guide to understanding the commodities markets, it is as if you have Babe Ruth as your batting coach. Kevin has that uncanny knack for doing things right, and the magic eye that can see the stitches on the fastball. Kevin's brilliant new book will help you to develop the ability to choose your pitch, and to swing at the ones on which you can make money. Before you play another inning of the commodities game, Read This Book!"

—Byron W. King, Contributing Editor, Whiskey and Gunpowder, www.whiskeyandgunpowder.com --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

4.0 out of 5 stars a Great Launching Point, April 12, 2007
I see Kevin on TV all the time, and I've read a lot of his stuff, so I was very excited to get my hands on this book. To be honest, it wasn't what I was expecting. But that's actually a good thing.

Instead of the trip into Kevin's head I was hoping for, this is more of a beginner's guide to commodities. Kevin patiently explains the basics, using examples and recalling actual situations to bring the text to life. And it's all presented in the "down home" style that makes him seem like the genuine article.

But aside from some tantalizing looks into Kevin's career, this isn't a book for his diehard fans. It's designed for a wide audience -- people who want to start trading commodities but don't know where to start. Given the knowledge Kevin shares, I think he could easily earn many new fans. And now that he's gotten the basics out of the way (and assuming this book does well), I expect a follow-up book with some really meaty tips for us commodity vets.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice primer for someone who sticks to stocks and mututal funds, April 11, 2007

This was a great intro to the "scary, hidden" world of commodities trading for someone who hasn't strayed from your usual stocks and funds. I've read so much about the commodity boom that I wanted a way to get involved in more directly than resource stocks. Kevin's book has helped me understand the commodity fundamentals while giving me some confidence to take some steps toward possibly playing the commodities themselves...

I have read many investment books and this is by far the worse. Gets into the basics that one can find searching online. You need rules for trading and accepting losses to cut them short. This book mentions the need for rules but that about it. It leaves the reader to find his own rules.
