Matt Cordell rises from his watery grave and seeks revenge on those who killed him in the previous entry. He also causes trouble by killing cops and helping the criminals. And when he teams up with a homicidal serial killer, it's up to though cop Sean Mc Kinney and his partner Susan Riley to stop this murderous duo before it's to late.
A very entertaining and well acted movie. Better than you'd expect and well directed by William Lustig (Maniac, Uncle Sam)One of the film most memorable scenes is where Matt Cordell causes a massacre at a police station.
The Maniac Cop movies are very underated slashers in my opninion. So, if you like other slasher movie series such as Friday The 13th, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Child's Play and Halloween, you should add Maniac Cop 1-3 to your collection as well.

Maniac Cop 2 is the best in the whole trilogy! It has some really awesome action scenes and some funny one-liners from the murderer that Matt Cordell becomes friends with. The car chase mid-way through the movie was awesome and well thought out. Robert Z'dar gives an awesome and well played performance in his second go 'round as the Maniac Cop. If you're into action movies with a little bit of horror, then be sure to give this one a look!

Maniac Cop 2 is the entertaining follow up to the 1988 B-Movie Classic, Maniac Cop. Maniac Cop 2 takes place nine months after the original movie saw the infamous Officer Matt Cordell drown in the East River. After the original movie's heros' Officers Forrest and Mallory are killed violently, Detective Sean Mckinney (Robert Davi) begins the search for their killer. Mckinney is also battling another series of killings in the city, while also battling his own demons. Matt Cordell (played once again by Robert D'Zar) keeps the body count lower in his second film, but a higher budget and better made film makes the movie just as entrtaining as the first. The movie makers go back to the first in some sense by having another longer and more grusome police station massacre and a police chase scene leads up to the climax scene. Matt Cordell returns to Sing-Sing Prison to confront the men who killed him. The sequel provides the answer to questions left in the first film, such as is Cordell still human or in sense an living dead killer. Maniac Cop 2 will not leave any of this series fans upset.

The movie itself is top-notch and probably my favorite film in the series, but if you want reviews, go to IMDB.

This dvd is as barebones as they come. It features the awesome special feature that is "scene selections", and that's it. Not even a trailer. But since this film is so rare, it's probably the best version you can find in R1.

A cut above the average 80's series psycho flicks, this is good fun to look back on and reminisce to the days when there was no mobile phones, twitter or political correctness. Nowadays, the studio would be sued for making police look like deranged lunatics. Let's just remember - it's make-believe, hey?! If you want a modern horror movie designed to send you screaming to the hills, watch the new wave of horror documentaries by Justin Bieber, One Direction, Beyoncé, Katy Perry, etc.

In Maniac Cop (1988), former New York City cop Matt Cordell (Robert Z'Dar) began a violent killing spree that is continued in the sequel, Mania Cop 2 (1990), which delivers more of the same cruel violence, in mostly dark and gritty settings. Spoilers follow, so stop here if you must.

Cordell, who had a pipe run into his chest, before taking a plunge into a river, is believed dead. Following procedures, Commissioner Edward Doyle (Michael Lerner) has police officers Jack Forrest (Bruce Campbell) and Teresa Mallory (Laurene Langdon), who tangled with the Maniac Cop in the first film, see clinical psychologist Susan Riley (Claudia Christian) for evaluation. Forrest believes Cordell is dead, while a still traumatized Mallory feels the Maniac Cop is still alive. Cordell is far from dead, and picks up where he left off, brutally slaying Officer Forrest. Detective Sean McKinney (Robert Davi) is assigned to the case, where Mallory is next on Cordell's hit list. Mallory however, doesn't go down without a fight, as she races with Cordell in stolen cab, and then takes him on with a chainsaw, before having her neck snapped. Susan Riley barely escapes death, after taking a wild ride handcuffed to the steering wheel of a runaway car, in a pretty impressive stunt sequence.

Writer Larry Cohen and director William Lustig, who collaborated on the first film, continue to work well together, although the story takes a strange twist, when Cordell teams up with serial killer Steven Turkell (Leo Rossi). Turkell has been murdering strippers, and while attempting to strangle a stripper named Cheryl (Paula Trickey), Cordell mysteriously appears, and helps Turkell evade capture by the police.

William Lustig's "Maniac Cop 2" is a rare thing - a sequel that surpasses its original. Granted, the original "Maniac Cop" wasn't exactly Shakespeare (though it is a hell of fun trashy B-Movie) so that probably wasn't very hard to do. This direct-to-video follow up still holds up well as one of the better B-films of the early 90s.

If you saw the first movie, then you know the story of how dedicated NYPD officer Matt Cordell became the Maniac Cop after being framed by his superiors and sent off to prison as part of a corruption cover-up. His vengeance against those who wronged him served as the plot of the first film, and as "2" opens, the horribly scarred, hulking Cordell still has a few loose ends to tie up. Bruce Campbell and Laurene Landon return briefly from the first film though neither of them survives very long, and new characters are brought in to deal with the psychotic officer: grizzled NYPD detective Robert D'avi (of the James Bond flick "License to Kill") and police psychologist Claudia Christian (who went on to "Babylon 5" as well as lots of other genre TV/film). The ante is upped this time because the Maniac Cop has hooked up with a partner for this second installment (Leo Rossi of "Halloween II" fame), a serial killer who's been stalking strippers and prostitutes on New York's seedy streets. Cordell shoots up NYPD Headquarters in a hilariously over the top shootout/massacre that simply has to be seen to be believed before he and Rossi (along with a few other criminals freed from police custody) head for the prison where Cordell first met his fate, to take care of the inmates there who were responsible for his beating/coma/"death" in part 1.

OK, so the plot is ridiculous and was probably written on a cocktail napkin.
