This review is from: Manifestations of Shiva (Paperback)
This book is filled with beautiful photographs of traditional Indian art. The author painstakingly selected images on the topic of Shiva that are well crafted in the antient Shilpic tradition of India. These kinds of traditional images are carved with a hammer and chisel made of woot steel in modern times just as they did in ancient times. They are made to mathematical specifications that are minute in measure. If they are temple icons, they are made to the mathmatical calculations of the temple - which, by the way, is of itself worthy of worship according to ancient scriptures. The Shilpis who carved these images knew the true significance of their designs - there is a science behind the meaning of shilpic designs and craftmenship. Unfortunately few people truly understand the true scientific and spiritual significance. While the author did not fully touch on this, she did a wonderful job in presenting the text and images. It takes association with a Shilpi Guru to really understand icons of India.
