Finally (!), an excellent book in Modern Differential Geometry that is here to stay! For people who struggled with the old-fashioned style and notations of Kobayashi and Nomizu, or with the happy-go-lucky style of Spivak's book, this new book is a must read! You will find it very well written, and you will regret that a book like this was not available 10 years ago! It leaves the pre-existing graduate textbooks behind, thanks to several attributes: 1. it is methodical and full of rigor, but at the same time easy to read; 2. it builds up all the concepts gradually, from a beginner's first-year graduate level .... up to the advanced level of a researcher who wants to learn about Lorentz manifolds and the Geometry of Physics; 3. it is smart, modern and user-friendly. As a professor and a researcher, I consider this book to be one of the best choices for your graduate students with an interest in differential geometry, topology and related areas.

I have read almost the entire book and I think it is quite a good book. Let me mention right away that this book won first prize in a highly competitive faculty book contest at his university (The President's Faculty Book Award).

Differential geometry is a deep and sophisticated branch of mainstream mathematics that finds wide application in both pure and applied mathematics. It is notorious for employing impenetrable notational devices and for its technical difficulty, which is something I have discovered for myself having looked at many books on the topic. I was pleased to see that Prof. Lee has taken great pains to address and solve many of these difficulties. I can say with confidence that despite many competitors, Prof. Lee's book will rise to the top because of the clarity of his writing style and attention to detail. In fact, it seems to me that Prof. Lee has cleared up some subtle confusions often found in some of the standard literature. Also, the book offers a unique collection of topics that cannot be found in any other single volume. There is also a growing online supplement at the publisher's website that includes many more topics.

Prof. Lee has corrected basic errors that are found in many of the standard texts. Of course, no book this size will be without errors and so I am pleased to see that Prof. Lee has the errata online, which presumably will be updated as needed. The errata can be found in the online supplement at the AMS website as well as at the author's professional homepage.

These bulky differential geometry books should be ranked on the level of boredom that they generate. This book competes well with the rest in this regard. Given the online supplement of some 300 pages you definitely have more total boredom compared to, say John Lee's text.
