favorite cadets through his charisma and hard work, but now they're
sending him back to Earth to work in their Los Angeles headquarters.

hopes to find a compromise between doing his job and his loyalty to
Earth, but then his homecoming speech sets off a string of violence from
both humans and aliens. First there's a hate message scrawled in blood,
then a drive-by attack, and a riot that ends in fire.

From the

5.0 out of 5 stars A Delightful Read - No Regrets! September 1, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I give this book a five star rating without reservation. I usually spend some time nit picking plot holes or problematic writing in my reviews but this story was just such a delightful read that I don't see any reason to say anything but how much I enjoyed it. The writing was stellar - something I don't always see in ebooks. The story was engaging and imaginative. One reviewer called it a YA book and given that the main protagonist is a young man in his late teens, I could see that it might seem that way. I can say as a woman in her fifties who has been reading science fiction my whole life it never felt too immature for me. It was a refreshing break from the unoriginal paranormal romance that seems to dominate the publishing world today. The story and the character development kept me reading until I had finished in just two evenings. I was so disappointed to see the sequel isn't out yet and I'm anticipating it now I know it is in the works at least. The story has a bit of Octavia Butler's Xenogenesis trilogy in the way aliens were truly alien. A bit of David Brin's Uplift series and the unironic optimism of Star Trek. The writer managed to reflect back to all of these classics and remain fresh and original at the same time. Read it - if you love science fiction you won't be disappointed!

5.0 out of 5 stars Hooked! May 16, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Originally, I read one of Corrie Ann Garrett's books to determine suitability for my high school students. Then I got hooked! The alien series gives a fresh perspective on old story lines. Just when I think I have it figured out, surprise! I recommend the series for young people (but us older folks will secretly enjoy it too!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Totally enjoyable! May 15, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
There are subtle overtones of parable or morality play, as well as the 'regular guy thrust into a untenable situation' motif. Add to that a hint of 'rage against the machine' and you have a fresh look at the whole mash up genre's. And all done in an understandable prose that is easy to follow but a bit more difficult to anticipate. Totally enjoyable!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great new Sci-fi June 11, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
…loved Manipulate! I am retired, a constant traveler and an avaricious reader. Access to the internet has allowed me to never be away from a good book! I downloaded Manipulate after seeing it on Freebooksy. I love sci-fi and reread all the old greats rarely finding new material that I like. I was pleasantly surprised with this offering. I found everything I love……lots of aliens, a hero….good guys winning….woot! A great YA book, and a great book for all ages….i look forward to reading Captivate!

5.0 out of 5 stars Happily Surprised! June 1, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Great story! Throughly enjoyed it! I can't wait for sequel! It was very well paced and held my attention from start to finish. Surprised to learn that it was initially released under a different title "Alien Apprentice" when I was looking for the sequel!

This Sci-Fi is well written and the characters are well developed. These children are the only hope for humans to survive and they are being murdered one by one. I recommend this book to Sci-Fy fans and to mystery fans. A very good read.
