5.0 out of 5 stars Great disc for fans of the hardcore, May 2, 2001
By Adam Detweiler (Santee, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mankind (Audio CD)
I was very impressed when I heard this CD from Factory 81. Initial listening brought me back to the good old days when The Deftones released "Adrenaline" and Rage Against the Machine were still killing in the name of.....There is a LOT of energy in this album. Many young bands simply don't have the experience, talent, and heart to put out a CD of this quality. Though the vocals do tend to hide behind the angry, crunchy guitar, they blend and compliment each other very well! This CD has the power to get you up and pumped within the first couple of songs. The vocals doo have a very Maynard-like tone to them, and the songs carry a lot of energy and tempo. If you enjoyed the way the Deftones used to be.......Then these guys will blow you away!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Up And Coming Progressive Rock Group, December 29, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Mankind (Audio CD)
When I first heard this band, I was completely blown away by the talent these young musicians out of Michigan possess. They share similarities to fellow progressive rockers Taproot and Linkin Park, but have their own unique sound. The debut CD "Mankind" mixes the sounds of Tool, Rage Against the Machine, and Disturbed into one to form a sound in which the vocals are lots of screams backed by very good singing, guitars playing hard rocking tunes with some brilliant riffs, and heavy and unique beats on the drums. There is a little bit of music for everybody on this CD as well, with tracks like "Nanu", "14 Left" and "Belligerence" fulfilling ones moshing needs, along with the tracks "Sludge" and "Rotten Strawberries" which provide a very clever sound that completes the balance of the CD. Overall, I would definitely recommend this CD to anyone who is looking for an escape from alot of the garbage that is out there right now, and is looking for a band who actually possesses talent and who will not sell out. I cannot wait to see what this band releases in the future after this excellent debut album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best metal in a long time, October 15, 2000
By muddy (Tinley Park, IL United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mankind (Audio CD)
I've listened to metal for alot of years now and I've listened to them all from death metal to rap-metal, but I must say that Mankind-Factory 81 is the best metal I've heard in a long time. It keeps your adreniline pumping from the beginning to the end of the cd. This band got me hooked since the first song I ever heard from them "Peace officer" and I never looked back. This underground band from Michigan is starting to emerage with all its powerfull lyrics, heartstomping guitars, and adreniline rushing drums. If you want a band that will blow you off your seat this is it, FACTORY 81.
