5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent teaching tool
Aliki's books are excellent teaching tools for preschoolers (and kids of all ages). Our preschooler loves to read this book. Each page has a different story about manners told in a comic-strip fashion. YOu can read just one or two in a sitting. 5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent teaching tool, November 16, 2000
This review is from: Manners (Hardcover)
Aliki's books are excellent teaching tools for preschoolers (and kids of all ages). Our preschooler loves to read this book. Each page has a different story about manners told in a comic-strip fashion. YOu can read just one or two in a sitting. The book is so well illustrated and communicates good behavior in such a way that children take it to heart. When our son demands something we ask him, "is that good manners?" The coolest thing is that he really gets it! It's this teaching tool that frees me from having to nag him! We just refer to the book. The other day he did threw something and hurt me. I asked him to apologize. When he refused, I got out the book and we read the section about causing hurt to other people and he whispered "I'm sorry." I love this book!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Children teaching children about manners, March 3, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Manners (Paperback)
This is a really wonderful book. Aliki captures the readers' attention with both cute cartoon-like characters and very age appropriate text. My children have enjoyed this book very much. I believe their enjoyment, at least partially, stems from the fact that children help children figure out what is appropriate behavior. I highly recommend this book to parents seeking help teaching children about manners.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for young children!, November 24, 1999
This review is from: Manners (Paperback)
This book is very entertaining for young children. It uses cartoons to get the point of manners across. I have read it to my four-year-old about five times (it's a long read for one sitting). Some of the manners actually rub off!

When my kids were around pre-school age, we checked out this book from the library again and again because they really enjoy reading it. With a little text, the cartons are so vivid. It's the right dose of reading for the kids when they just start to read. They can relate a lot of situations in this book to their own limited experience. It definitely contributed to their good manners today!

I have used this book as a kindergarten teacher everyday for the past 4 years. I read one page to the class a day and we act out the comic book strips. The students in my class are always remarkably well-behaved and their parents often thank me for transforming their little monsters into polite little children.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very clear cut lesson!, September 26, 2008
By
This review is from: Manners (Paperback)
This is a fantastic resource for kids who really need clear cut, structured visual lessons on manners. I feel like i have verbally corrected my kids about their manners for ages. After reading this book, my kids are now correcting me (in a respectful way....of course :) )on my own manners! This has been a great resource for my 7 and 10 year olds. Finally, something that is helping it all sink in!

5.0 out of 5 stars My Four Year Old Loves It, You Will Too, November 28, 2007
This review is from: Manners (Paperback)
We got this book for our son when he was three and a half years old. The visual style is crisp and well done. The writing is spare and superb. There is an easy realism and friendly humour to the vignette-style story lessons. This is one of his favorite books and it is clever enough that even I, as an adult, find it charming, after many, many re-readings.

Whether or not it improved his manners, it is a pleasure of a book to read. The moral lessons of the book are certainly well-presented and unobjectionable.

5.0 out of 5 stars how to behave; how NOT to behave, March 29, 2011
This review is from: Manners (Paperback)
This book is a hoot. Each page takes a manners topic - like behaving at a birthday party, and illustrates how NOT to do it, and how to do it right. This is a joy to share with your family - read it together so you can be in on the fun. Older kids love it.

Try to get a copy that has NOT been a library book - the end papers are hilarious.
