I purchased this thinking it was a book, not a brochure/pamphlet. It has good information, but I could have found the info online, printed it out, stapled it together and had a more substantial product.

I had this good, easy to understand book some time ago. When my niece's teenage son got a high energy dog he loved but had no idea how to teach manners, this was my choice to send him. He understood the book and the dog understood him! It's basic, necessary training for a dog who wants to be a family member. Sensible stuff for all dogs and owners.

I took a puppy training course from Gwen in 1990 in Palo Alto CA when I had a Chocolate Lab puppy. The course was critical and prepared my partner & I for a 15 year relationship with the dog (who turned out to be one of the best dogs ever). I now find myself awaiting delivery of a Labradoodle in the spring and look forward to refreshing my knowledge of the well-mannered dog.

I have used this book for years with new adopters (I volunteer with rescued dogs). Sometimes I print out the sections that are relevant to a particular dog's needs. As another reviewer mentioned they do print out neatly by topic. I don't think that makes the information any less helpful. This book is for "regular" dogs that just need to learn some manners. Also for new dog owners who need to learn how to teach manners. Gwen's other book, Help My Dog Has an Attitude! is an excellent resource for dogs with some "issues". I have used it to understand my dogs' behavior, especially aggression, and found it very helpful. Gwen is a well respected trainer (I know many) and very easy to read. How to Raise a Puppy You Can Live with by Rutherford is another good one for puppies. What All Good Dogs Should Know by Volhard is a great resource for children (and others) to learn about dog training basics. Karen Pryor's book about clicker training is helpful to teach positive reinforcement and a quick way to do training. My friends have a great trick training dvd called Take a Bow Wow which is available online (google it) but not on Amazon.
