Mannheim Steamroller Christmas, Symphony II

There isn't anything new on the Cd for the Christmas season. The same songs that were on previous Cd's are found here, just that they may have different arrangements and instrumentation. Essentially all newly orchestrated songs, but with the same flavor as the past. The music has been updated a bit with the members of the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra giving the music a greater depth instead of a canned sound of the synthesizer.

What is found in this Cd.?

1. Carol of the Bells 3:56
2. Vein Veni 4:22
3. Away in a Manger 3:26
4. Joy to the World 3:42
5. Christmas Lullaby 4:08
6. Hallelujah 4:34
7. Do You Hear What I Hear? 4:07
8. Lo How a Rose E'er Blooming 2:27
9. Traditions of Christmas 3:39
10. Good King Wenceslas 3:35
11. We Three Kings 4:02
12. Pat a Pan/Fum, Fum, Fum Medley 4:03
13. Auld Lang Syne 3:43

The sound is smoother and more polished giving the listener a better overall musical experience.

I notice so many responses saying they don't like this CD because it is nothing new. Well in fact it is new, it is newly recorded using an actual full sized Orchestra! The Czech Philharmonik Orhestra. While the songs may not be new, they most certainly have a new sound, and to me I love some of the new sounds and harmonics created using REAL instruments versus synth. Now this may not warrant a purchase for most people, it most certainly warrants listening to. I love Mannheim Steamroller and have listened to them since I was born, I am 26 now, so I would say I know Mannheim Steamroller very well.

I expected all new Christmas music and all this was just recordings of previous songs. I was very disappointed that I had wasted my money since I had all of them anyway.

This is a gentler, softer Mannheim, but it is still wonderful. It's in the car and we listen all the time! Nothing like Mannheim Steamroller to shorten a trip!!

Absolutely no new music. I already own copies of every piece on this CD. Had I realized that nothing new had been added, I would not have purchased it.

Mannheim Steamroller puts out quality music. Easy to listen to over and over, which is important during Christmas when you listen to the same songs over and over.

This latest Christmas album from Mannheim Steamroller is not as electronic (it's "unplugged") as the big hit album Christmas In The Aire from 1995. That was a monster hit and was more electronic. This album, as the title suggests, is more symphonic, classic Christmas tunes.

1. It doesn't sound good on small players. Best for stereo systems with some good sound

2. It doesn't have that relentless disco type beat or electronic synthesizer throughout. It has instrumentals. Chip Davis started Mannheim Steamroller in '74 to create a blend of classical with rock elements but it's now completely mainstream and frankly, as classic as Mitch Miller or Arthur Fiedler and the Boston Pops. If you like this sort of thing, this is the sort of thing you'll like.

3. Personally, this is NOT my favorite MS album for Christmas or even my favorite Christmas album. But for parties, it's terrific as background music to create the mood for the holiday season and perfectly good for office or home. If you're loading up the CD player to have background seasonal music, or if you play it in your office (we do that) it is perfect!

For old-skool Mannheim Steamroller fans, this may not be your favorite, either, but seeing as they are one of the biggest acts on stage during the holidays, you may love this. I knocked off stars because it's just not my ultimate Christmas album or even Mannheim album, but a number of friends expressed a great desire to own this, so it's going to please many people. I did give it as gifts and it was well-received, but this isn't the Mannheim Steamroller I go for when I play Christmas music at home--despite the fact I love each song on here--here's the list:

1. Carol of the Bells
2. Veni, Veni
3. Away in a Manger
4.

Manheim Steamroller never disappoints particularly as it relates to their Christmas albums. If one wants to have a robust selection of Christmas music, I highly recommend acquiring all Manheim releases
