3.0 out of 5 stars ...this novel reminded me a little too much of the movie "Brown Sugar"
Although this author's writing skill is evident, this novel reminded me a little too much of the movie "Brown Sugar" with a slight twist....the affair between the two female characters Kai and Alana. K. Elle Collier's debut offering, My Man's Best Friend, introduces readers to Kai Edwards. Kai is a woman who has had her share of relationships. Most of the relationships did not last long, but there is something about Kai's new love interest, Todd Daniels. From the first day, she saw Todd, she knew he was the one for her. There was just this one thing about Todd that she had a problem with and that was his best friend, Alana.

Alana is a beautiful model that was once Todd's roommate. Kai notices that Todd and Alana's relationship is very close and Kai cannot stand it. She and her best friend come up with a plan that just might not work in her favor. Kai gets in way too deep and finds herself in a love triangle.

When this drama-filled rollercoaster ride is about to end the author drops another shocker. There has to be a sequel to this one. I recommend this read to readers looking for a fast-paced read that is hard to put down.

I would have loved to have seen a little more originality in the storyline from Ms. Collier. She has a flair for words and the ability to draw you into the scene. Kudos for this being her first novel. She ends this novel with a note of suspense which makes you anxious to read the sequel. All in all, I rather enjoyed it and will be interested to see what happens next with these characters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Low Down Secrets..., September 22, 2008
This review is from: My Man's Best Friend (Paperback)
Kai Edwards is having the perfect life with her boyfriend Todd Daniels. But Kai learns that nothing in life is perfect when Todd's best friend Alana Brooks decides to move into town. Kai's immediately becomes suspicious of the beautiful Alana and comes up with a plan to keep her man. But Kai's plan it turned upside down when she starts having strong feelings for Alana. Soon, Kai and Alana become tangled in a love triangle that spirals out of control. Will Kai be able to live a normal life again?

My Man's Best Friend is a thought-provoking debut novel by K. Elle Collier. Collier brought a story that is filled with a web of deception and lies. Kai is a complex character because she is trying to keep her man and deal with her own family drama. You really feel the inner turmoil that Kai has in trying to juggle both. Of course no novel like this would be complete without a couple of surprising twists that will keep readers on their toes. There is even a cliffhanger ending that will hopefully lead to a sequel. My Man's Best Friend is an explosive and dramatic debut novel by K. Elle Collier.

4.0 out of 5 stars (RAW Rating 3.5) Best Friend from Hell, September 18, 2008

This review is from: My Man's Best Friend (Paperback)
K. Elle Collier has written an interesting story about relationships. The question you will ponder before or after reading MY MAN'S BEST FRIEND is: Can a man and a woman really be just friends without sex? Kai Edwards is beautiful, sexy and graceful, and she is a shoe lover. She meets and falls in love with Todd Daniels, a successful, handsome attorney. He comes into the relationship with a beautiful model who is supposedly his best friend of more than 15 years.

Alana Brooks, the best friend, is also extremely beautiful and catches the eye of men and women when she enters any room. She is married, but is often seen holding onto Todd's arm. She spends too much time hanging onto his every word, as a matter of fact, his live-in lover Kai, can't seem to have a minute alone with him, without his tag-along sidekick.

To eliminate the competition, Kai devises a scheme to get rid of the intrusive woman who seems to want more than a friendship with Todd. Todd may find himself in a compromising situation if he's not careful, when Kai decides to take their relationship to another level.

MY MAN'S BEST FRIEND is a good story that will make you think every time a man claims he is best friends with a beautiful woman. The novel is filled with drama and page turning antics by Kai and Alana. Collier did a great job in developing the characters and other than a few editing issues, the book is well-written. If you are a woman who is in love and your man claims to have a woman for a best friend, then this is the book for you. It will certainly help you to take the blinders off when dealing with a he's or she's my best friend syndrome. This is a solid debut for this author. I'm certainly looking forward to the sequel as I'm sure there will be one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Too Good To Put Down!, September 5, 2008
This review is from: My Man's Best Friend (Paperback)
My Man's Best Friend is a juicy read that will have you "caught up"
just like the character's in the book. From the unexpected twists of
the sexy plot to the "hold on to your headboard" love scenes; it's a
story that begins with a guilty pleasure and ends with the kind of
redemption that you only get when love and lust made you go too far.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Top Work of Fiction I Have Read This Year, September 4, 2008
This review is from: My Man's Best Friend (Paperback)
Central character Kai Edwards - a woman that has it together for the most part - finds out that her boyfriend, Todd, has a long time best friend that is a beautiful woman named Alana. Kai comes up with a conniving plan to keep Todd's attention, and the rollercoaster ride begins.

The author's debut deals with controversial issues including sex, drug addition, and relationships. This fictional book shows some dubious behaviors by the three main characters and the serious consequences of those behaviors.

In the end, there is an underlining message of determination and recovery. This is a good read, with passion and emotion. The dialogue between Kai and the supporting cast of characters has something for everyone, including an ultimate lesson about being true to oneself.

It is a hard book to put down, written with a detailed, up to date authenticity. It is the finest novel I have read this year. The twists and turns of this compelling story continue until the very last page.
