4.0 out of 5 stars Classic romantic novel in the 40's setin post war Scotland, August 13, 1996
By A Customer
This review is from: Man's Estate (Hardcover)
Man1s Estate is a reissue of Nigel Tranter1s 1946 romantic novel. The story follows an officer returning to his grandfather1s estate after the war. The grandfather and elder son have ruined the estate and created a major hatred from the locals. These problems are transferred to the hero and his son. The story follows their progress assisted by the love interest. The reviewer is an enthusiastic fan of this genre of novel. Nevil Shute was the early master, Nigel Tranter the skilled follower. This is one a dozen that I have been able to find over the years only by going to Scotland. They are each set in Scotland, many around W.W.II, others in the prior century. I love each of them and appreciate them more than the historic novels Tranter has been writing for the last thirty years.
