5.0 out of 5 stars Like a fine French wine..., January 14, 2010
This review is from: Man's Temptation (Audio CD)
Discovering the music of Kermit Lynch is like discovering a
fine wine (which should come as no surprise to those who also know him as an expert importer of fine French wines). My favorite track on this album is, "Why Can't She Be You" written by the great, Hank Cochran. I found Kermit's version to be extremely 'embraceable' and kept going back to this track after listening to the entire CD several times. I also like the "The Fool" because of its lighthearted groove...Kermit gives it just the right 'something' to make it a standout on the album. Kermit's interpretation of title track, "Man's Temptation" written by the legendary Curtis Mayfield, is nicely done and worth the price of admission. Highly recommended for those with good taste in music AND wine!

5.0 out of 5 stars "Man's Temptation" a real treat!, November 7, 2009
This review is from: Man's Temptation (Audio CD)
Do you like traditional country, blues, r&b, and Bob Dylan? Then this album is for you.
It turns out that wine importer Kermit Lynch not only knows his grapes, he also has great taste in music. Put on his version of Dylan's "Girl from the North Country" and ask your friends: who's the singer? Of course they'll never guess, but they'll think they ought to know because it sounds so good. Who is this guy who can cover the ground from ecstasy to despair in a single take?
Kermit's album is full of great songs ranging from the title track by Curtis Mayfield through the Stanley Brothers' "Rank Stranger," the classic "Take These Chains from My Heart," and four new ones Kermit wrote himself.
His ability to find new ways of interpreting familiar material makes this album special. On "Rank Stranger" Kermit seems to inhabit the torment of the song's character. On "Take These Chains" he summons up the atmosphere of a real Texas Honky Tonk, sawdust floor and all.
With the help of Bonnie Raitt percussionist Ricky Fataar, and a host of Nashville sidemen--Michael Omartian among them--Kermit has produced an album that will delight everyone who enjoys this rich tradition of American music.
