Review

Dalton MacKenzie lives by his honor-- and honor means doing the job he is paid to do. He's an arbitrator but he knows he's just a hired killer. Patrick Jamison hires him to cast a big shadow across the land butting up against Chugwater River and run out anyone who won't sell their land. It's a job Dalton knows well and one he's ready to undertake until an accident throws him into the company of the very people he's supposed to intimidate. When Jude Amos takes him in and nurses him back to health but she heals more than his body-- she heals his shattered soul and makes him believe in faith and love again. Jude is a responsible, respectable, plain-looking woman-- and a twenty-five year old spinster who has never even been kissed. Since her father's death, it's been up to her to run Amos Station, the way station between the Cheyenne and Black Hills Stage and Express Line. Her family consists of her younger brother Sammy, a man with a child's mind, and Joseph Otaktay, the Indian who has lost his own family and now watches over Jude and Sammy. Joseph's wisdom and Sammy's boyish enthusiasm brighten Jude's days, but what she longs for is a man to sweep her off her feet. A man like Dalton MacKenzie. But the gunman would never give her a second look-- unless he was forced to see with his heart instead of his eyes. A Man's Touch is a powerful, poignant love story. Jude is not the typical heroine, she's an ordinary woman making the best of a lonely life. But she has a loving heart and a strong spirit that Dalton can't resist-- once he realizes what true beauty is all about. Dalton is a broodingly handsome hero that would make any woman swoon. Sammy and Joseph are wonderful characters, adding depth and meaning to make A Man's Touch nearly flawless. Rosalyn West should be commended for taking a familiar storyline and turning it into something truly special!A memorable book-- and a definite keeper! Rosalyn West is a fantastic storyteller! She knows how to wrap her words around her readers' hearts! You won't want the story to end. When it comes to historical romance, nobody does it better than Rosalyn West! A Man's Touch is a tender, romantic and sensual love story! One of the best books this year!Kristina Wright -- Copyright © 1994-97 Literary Times, Inc. All rights reserved -- From Literary Times

3.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing., June 16, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: A Man's Touch (Mass Market Paperback)
I loved Rosalyn west's outsider series. Perhaps that is why this book is such a disappointment. It is VERY slow getting to the cruxt of the story. The storyline is excellent and the characters have depth. The writing, ala RW, is also good. But I got so tired of listening to how "plain, unpretty, etc." Jude Amos is. Dalton Mackenzie injures his eyes in a stagecoach robbery and Jude takes him in and nurses him back to health. Of course he "visualizes" his nurse who in his mind's eye is beautiful beyond compare. In one scene where he regains his sight and "sees" her his disappointment at her lack of physical beauty is explicit. How horrible. And how shallow. You would think poor Jude had a huge wart on her nose. He eventually comes to love her for all her wonderful qualities and she becomes attractive to him because of those traits. But in this world of superficial beauty being applauded at every turn, it really is upsetting to have to read a good book that makes the leading lady feel like a lesser person because she's just plain. I think this was in poor taste, RW. Our heroine could easily have been an average looking gal who was loved for her other traits without hurting her feelings about it repeatedly. To further emphasize the focus on looks, the cover girl certainly isn't "plain".

5.0 out of 5 stars MOST EXCELLENT!, May 4, 2002

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: A Man's Touch (Mass Market Paperback)
A Man's Touch embodies almost every woman's dream - to reform the bad boy with love.
Dalton MacKenzie, at 6'4", is the ultimate gunslinger - confident, arrogant and almost black hearted - yet despite the blackness of his soul, he had not completely surrendered it yet to the dark side.

Jude Amos, with a loving charity, produced a crack in the granite surrounding "Mac's" heart and widened that crack with each impassioned kiss.

Mac longed to belong - Jude wanted to belong to someone and Sammy's unconditional love crumbled Mac's reisistance even more. Great Uncle Joseph stayed with his "family" - he had married Jude's grandfather's sister and lost her and their children - now he longed only to live out his life with Jude and Sammy and he was even willing to include Mac.

Of course, there is a little witch that tries to stir up a broth of trouble and luckily there are only two deaths of a couple of perps [grin] You almost root for that action.

Great story - great action - excellent characters - neat cover but where do they get these scrawny models? She should have kept her legs [appendages] covered. Author accomplished her goal of a great story.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED --M

5.0 out of 5 stars I read it in less than 24 hours. I could not put it down!!, June 24, 1998
This review is from: A Man's Touch (Mass Market Paperback)
Ms. West penned an outstanding book. I only wished it would have been longer. I became lost in the story and really identified with Jude. Ms. West made the reader actually feel and identify with each character in the book. This was my first book by Ms. West until I found out she was also Dana Ransom. I have read several books by Ms. Ransom. This lady is a writer of the highest quality.....I have never been captured by an author as I have this lady. I strongly advise everyone to read anything by Ms. West/Ransom.....
