I love Anne Baker's books,

This review is from: Mansion By the Mersey (Paperback)
I did not want to put this book down as I had to find out this family's secrets as much as Lorna wanted to.It's 1930 and 20 year old Lorna Matthews couldn't be happier, instead of losing her job the new owner of the business wants her to stay on. When her mother Alice finds out that Lorna will be working for the Wyndham family she reluctantly tells her that Oliver Wyndham was her natural father. Alice tells her this to stop her going because the family had treated Alice badly after the death of Oliver but this makes Lorna want to work for them even more. This family has so many secrets, and had a proud heritage. They had been a wealthy family whose business was slowing down and they could no longer maintain their family home so Lorna was given the job of cataloging the goods and chattels of 200 years so they could be sorted for auction. What she finds I found fascinating and add that to the fact that Johnathon Wyndham falls in love her and she with him well...! I have enjoyed every book I have read of Anne Baker's so far and I am looking forward to reading some more. |
