Product Description

The Compact ComposTumbler takes your kitchen and yard waste and turns it into rich compost in weeks, instead of months (or even years). Designed for suburban gardeners and homeowners with smaller properties. The drum holds 22 cubic feet (9.5 bushels, 88 gallons), leaving plenty of room for fruits, vegetable, grass, leaves and any other organic matter you may have. A large door opening and gear driven handle made it easy to use. It has interior fins to help mix the material as it turns. Assembled dimensions are 43" H x 42" W x 33" D and it weighs 60 lbs empty. Made of rust-resistant galvanized steel for long life. Its sage green color allows it to blend into your property. Comes with a 2 year warranty on all parts.

I've read some reviews on ComposTumbler's hit or miss history with customer service, but from what I understand, they were recently bought by Mantis.

I broke a part (my fault) on my ComposTumbler and they were what you'd expect for high quality customer service. They knew the part, they got the order to me quickly and were very friendly and helpful.

I like my ComposTumbler so it's good to know that the customer service has improved significantly (from reading older reviews) since Mantis took over.

Great product, great service. Buy one.

This composter is easy to turn since it has a handle and gears. The only drawback is the lid falls off instead of being permanently attached. This makes emptying it easy, but you have to remember to latch it carefully before turning.

Products like this remind me why I hate to assemble stuff. Don't buy this unless you are skilled at putting things together.

Every single metal part, including the walls and the bolts has rusted completely after about 2.5 years. The rust was all in compost. It's galvanized metal. The process of galvanization involves steel parts that are submerged in a bath of molten zinc. Zinc is not safe in a vegetable garden. This product is not safe for growing food. The should either use safe materials, such as stainless steel or give a disclaimer that their product is toxic and not durable.

Believe what you read in other reviews - assembling this is a challenge. We needed 2 people to complete it and even then some steps required improvising beyond the instructions. The drum assembly procedure needs a serious re-think IMHO.
The instruction booklet is pretty clear as far as it goes I wish the person who wrote it had assembled one.
Operation of the completed machine is straightforward. A hinge on the door would be nice.
The materials used are robust and the parts are well made. Ours required only one minor adjustment. The axles on our unit did not turn freely when fully inserted into the drum. Perhaps this is intentional, but the instructions make no mention if it so we opened the drum holes with sand paper.
We have just started our first compost batch so I can't comment on the output.
The book on making compost that accompanies the unit is very educational.
