About the Author

Thomas Ashley-Farrand has practiced mantra-based spiritual disciplines for 23 years and currently serves as priest and President of the Satya Yuga Bijam - Sanatana Dharma Satsang. Well known for his ability to translate complex philosophies in fresh language for western ears, he conducts meditations and ceremonies in people's homes, local colleges and for various religious organizations. Over the last fifteen years, Ashley-Farrrand has been producer-director for a Washington, D.C. television station, and is a former full-time faculty member of George Washington University.

This six audio tape series (with study guide) is an excellent progression from Thomas Ashley-Farrand's beginners and Healing Mantra's series. I was wary of it repeating some of his entry level products on Sanskrit Mantra and I was happy to be proved wrong. This series builds knowledge, and goes a few steps deeper into such things as the seed mantras, karma, Avatars, masculine and feminine energies, attunements, physical organs, and the Gayatri Mantra. It does this without losing the benefits of the beginner's series, yet it also stands on its own. Its an elegant expression of what amounts to an incredibly dynamic and wise system of ancient spiritual practice.

A very well structured series, its easy to learn and to find specific areas of interest including a section on Tibetan Buddhism. Thomas Ashley-Farrand's passion and commitment is apparent to anyone willing to listen.

Its also a wise choice for audio tapes instead of 6 x CD's because if you're like me, I don't have a CD stacker in my car!

I have the book called "Healing Mantras". If you are interested in mantras, and you know very little, and you just want to get started don't get this 6 CD set with the book. Get it after you read "Healing Mantras". Healing Mantras gives you the basics to get started. If you want to go very, very deep into certain areas and to go much more into depth then go through this CD. I would start with the book "Healing Mantras" and get the CD with the same title. Then, if you decide you want to get more background information. You will have to go over and over this. Reading the book is very important if you are more visual. It is good to read the book over and over (it's really a study guide) and then go back to the CDs. I admit it is hard to absorb a lot of what he says. It takes time. Give yourself time with this. Thomas Ashley Farrand or Namadeva is very good. This book does have some typos, but that is okay. Some of the mantras that you learn are long ways.
I was surprised that I managed to learn it. I really like the Om Apadamapa mantra which goes "Om Apadamapa Hataram Dataram Sarva Sampadam Loka Bhi Ramam Sri Ramam Bhuyo Bhuyo Namam-yaham." It is very beautiful to chant that one and the Gayatri Mantra. The Gayatri I haven't mastered yet. It is a little more difficult, but very nice, too.

This is a comprehensive mantra tool-bag. A must-have in your library of book collections for those who're interested in playing of consciousness. Explanations are concise and clear. Most important is, you'll see results if you really follow the guidlines and practice it.
