5.0 out of 5 stars Fischbach Edition 8
Great addition to my office. Explains some tests we use infrequently-good to explain to patients.

3.0 out of 5 stars needs to be checked for editing
My only issue with this book is that the index doesn't always match up with the page numbers, but it gets you close to where you need to be so you just have to flip forward or backwards a couple of pages. Its a good idea to just tab the pages yourself. Other than that its a good book with accurate and useful information.

I was introduced to this book, a few editions back, during my Nurse Practitioner course work. It is the single, best, laboratory resource book I have ever used. It guides me daily in my clinical practice. I give it highest marks and recommend it to anyone in clinical practice.

I love this book. It provides all the information you need in a very readable format. I've been a medical writer for over 20 years, and this is the book I always turn to when I need to know more about a particular laboratory test. Every time it is updated, I buy the new version.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Lab Values Interpretation book, September 4, 2009
This review is from: A Manual of Laboratory and Diagnostic Tests (Paperback)
This well-written manual tells how and why labs are drawn, what the numbers mean, and gives reasons for abnormal values. It includes relationships among different tests and test results. Fabulous! I think this book is indispensable for patients and caretakers, as well as home care nurses who want to know what all those numbers mean, and how to interpret changes.

Over the years, I have purchased 5 different lab reference manuals. This is the most comprehensive and easily understood lab reference manual I have ever owned.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unnecessarily Difficult to Use, December 14, 2010

Terribly disorganized, impossible to look up simple lab tests - simply not worth the effort. Crammed with a lot of useless filler that makes finding pertinent information even more difficult.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing...., November 12, 2008
This review is from: A Manual of Laboratory and Diagnostic Tests (Paperback)
I thought this book was going to be comprehensive. Instead, it seems at times superficial and outdated. I will give an example: The book claims that total T4, FTI, total T3, and TSH are the most useful tests for hyperthyroidism. You must be kidding? What about Free T4? You think total T3 is more important than free T3 in determining thyroxicosis that has a normal free T4? Frankly, I have no faith in this book. Maybe this is enough information for a nurse, but if you are a physician, look some place else. Don't make decisions based on some statements in this book because you'll be sorry. I'll be looking for a better book on lab tests!
