An Advance in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy,
By John C Markowitz (New York, NY United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Manual of Panic-Focused Psychodynamic Psychotherapy (Hardcover)
Psychodynamic psychotherapy is a widespread treatment that has unfortunately not received the empirical testing it deserves. One reason that has been cited for its lack of research is the difficulty in standardizing psychodynamic psychotherapy in a manual form so that therapists can be trained to deliver it reliably. Dr. Milrod and her colleagues have met this challenge. Their book clearly describes how psychodynamic psychotherapy can be focused to treat panic disorder, a common and disabling but treatable condition. The book serves as the treatment manual for an ongoing comparative psychotherapy study at Cornell University in New York City, where Panic-Focused Psychodynamic Psychotherapy is being compared to another treatment to test its efficacy. The authors are knowledgeable psychoanalysts. Their well-written book should be helpful to psychodynamic psychotherapists, and perhaps to patients with panic as well. It represents an important advance for the field.

This was a gift to a family member who is a therapist. She seemed to be very pleased with the book.
