Book Description

0071375821 978-0071375825 December 11, 2001 1st
This book describes the anatomy and biomechanics of each area of the spine, pelvis and TMJ, and the theories behind the subjective and objective exams. Working from this foundation, detailed explanations on the assessment and treatment of each of the various areas are given, enabling the student and clinician to differentially diagnoze, and integrate the results gleaned from the assessment, in order to formulate a working hypothesis. The sequential flow of the assessment is also detailed, with explanations as to its rationale, allowing a clinician of any proficiency level to use this book as a resource for an accurate biomechanical assessment, and the design of a specific treatment plan, based on those assessment findings. Recognizing the varying abilities between clinicians, most techniques are described with the patient sitting or lying in different positions. To help illustrate topics, case studies are included in a discussion format to highlight the evaluation and treatment techniques, as well as details about both the commonly encountered pathologies, and the more serious ones that can mimic a musculoskeletal dysfunction. To make this even more suitable for classroom use, appropriate chapters conclude with review questions and throughout, the book the follows the "Guide to Physical Therapist Practice".

Editorial Reviews

Review

"Clinicians who are looking for a book in manual therapy of the spine will find the information presented here of practical significance. This book is comparable to others in the field and offers additional didactic information on tissue mechanics and the treatment of cervical disorders related to trauma (i.e. whiplash). The clinical exam sections and treatment schemes are also easy to follow and make this a valuable resource for therapists who apply manual techniques to the treatment of the spine."

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for novice and expert therapists alike, January 10, 2002

This review is from: Manual Therapy of the Spine: An Integrated Approach (Paperback)
This book is an excellent reference source for the evaluation and treatment of the spine, pelvis and TMJ using both manual techniques and exercise. The book has informational chapters on each of the aforementioned joints, as well as the vertebral artery, the scanning examination, and the subjective examination. The text is extensively referenced, and there are numerous case studies, that challenge the reader to test their differential diagnostic skills. There are also a lot of review questions at the end of the chapters. This book is a must read for novice and expert therapists alike.
