useful for professionals administering MBTI, academics,
By
This review is from: MBTI Manual (A guide to the development and use of the Myers Briggs type indicator) (3rd ed #6111) (Paperback)
This manual is a textbook, academic in nature, full of research and detail. If you're an MBTI facilitator and you need to have a good understanding of the theory and research supporting MBTI, this may be a good investment. If you're just a type junkie looking for a good read about MBTI, I'm not sure I'd recommend this (unless you're an NT, and you like acquiring knowledge for no particular reason).
The book is organized as follows: 1. Overview / Differences between MBTI and other instruments 2. Construction, development, revision of MBTI instrument 3. Theory behind MBTI 4. Understanding the 16 types 5. Administering the MBTI 6. Interpreting results and verifying type 7. Construction and properties of the MBTI 8. Reliability and measurement precision 9. Validity 10. Use of types in counseling and pschotherapy 11. Use of type in eduction 12. Use of type in career counseling 13. Use of type in organizations 14. Use of type in multicultural settings. The book provides a fair amount of interesting detail that you won't find elsewhere -- but the detail is of limited use to most folks. Do you really need to know which type is most highly represented among research librarians? And female engineering students? High school basketball coaches? How types correlate with college aptitude test scores? There are lots of charts and graphs and detailed information -- it's interesting, but it will be of little practical use to most casual users of MBTI. (As an NT, however, I find it fascinating -- as knowledge in and of itself has value.)

MBTI Essentials,

This review is from: MBTI Manual (A guide to the development and use of the Myers Briggs type indicator) (3rd ed #6111) (Paperback)
This is a fully referenced psychology textbook on the Myers Briggs Type Indicator. Essential reference for accredited administrators of the instrument. Also for anyone researching or otherwise writing about the MBTI. There are articles out there even in peer reviewed journals raising pretty facile objections to type theory, all of which are thoroughly dealt with in this work and its a shame the authors didnt consult it first.

This review is from: MBTI Manual (A guide to the development and use of the Myers Briggs type indicator) (3rd ed #6111) (Paperback)
This essential reference for users of the MBTI® instrument is organized with the goal of promoting understanding and ease of application. Part I, "Introduction," gives an overview of the distinctive features of the MBTI® assessment, details the 50-year development of the instrument, and outlines the rationale behind the development of Form M. Part II, "Theory," explains type theory and describes the 16 types. Part III, "Administration and Interpretation," gives practitioners the basic information they need to use the MBTI® inventory effectively. Part IV, "Research," covers the wealth of information relevant to the psychometric features of the MBTI® instrument, including its construction, reliability, and validity. It describes the new method for scoring Form M using item response theory (IRT). Part V, "The Uses of Type," provides hands-on, practical guidance to those using the MBTI® tool in counseling and psychotherapy, education, career counseling, organizations, and multicultural settings.

MBTI manual does not need any review. It is a complete and comprehensive introduction of MBTI theory and methodology. This book is a must read for any human resource professional. Even though he or she is not an MBTI certified.

The book came to me and pages were falling out. It was marked used but the pages literally broke away from the binding.

This review is from: MBTI Manual (A guide to the development and use of the Myers Briggs type indicator) (3rd ed #6111) (Paperback)
This book is based on the MBTI system and please understand that this system has serious flaws. The only effective system to personality typing is used by Rod Novichkov in his book How to Find Yourself and Your Best Match Socionics. Eventhough the book sounds like a matchmaking book it is infact written with the purpose of explaining the different personality types and goes further to explain morphology and intertype relationships between people. Read Socionics and inspire your professors to look at this type theory before you seek answers from MBTI; you will be impressed.
