Five Stars for a Wonderful Performance, November 2, 2008
This review is from: Manuel de Falla's Spain (Audio CD)
Since no one has yet reviewed this CD, I'd like to put in my two cents to say that I found it both exciting and wonderful (giving full weight to that last word, as "capable of eliciting wonder"). I found the performance remarkably evocative of Spain, splendidly performed, and the quality of the sound superior. Highly recommended to anyone interested in getting to know de Falla's music.

Exceptional beauty, December 17, 2010
This review is from: Manuel de Falla's Spain (Audio CD)
I am accustomed to Alicia De Larrocha playing "Nights in the Gardens of Spain" and was almost shocked to find the unexpected exceptional beauty of this version. Somehow the conductor has managed to control the pulse of the work to maximum benefit as it surges with excitement at just the right moments and then slips into a revere of gentleness elsewhere. The London Symphony plays with ravishing intensity and I cannot find any reason to be in the least disappointed by the soloist who I confess not to know. This piece is a vibrant, passionate work of romanticism that should be in everyone's collection. The sound of the orchestra is wonderful.
