Editorial Reviews

My Dying Bride has been the leading force in the Death/Doom Metal genre since their inception in the early 1990's. Now the Yorkshire titans return with their 2013 release The Manuscript. The EP contains four new and exclusive songs; a dark voyage spanning over 27 minutes of supreme doom. The atmospherics have been stripped back slightly to focus on a more sparse yet hard-hitting metallic opus, yet also still including additional passages of violin and acoustic guitar as the tales unfold, all narrated with Aaron Stainthorpe's ferocious vocal delivery, plus more soothing mournful tones. The Manuscript was recorded and mixed at Futureworks Studios in Manchester, UK with long time producer, Mags.

5.0 out of 5 stars Aaron does it again July 14, 2013
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase I have been a huge MDB fan since about 1997, and they have been part of the soundtrack of my life ever since. The manuscript brings together the styles of higher pitched mournful singing mixed with the well articulated growls that have been the standard with MDB for a while now, and show how Aaron's clean vocals have really come so far in terms of clarity and and range. But for fans of the older speech-singing lower pitched monotone you can't miss with the final two tracks. The guitar work continues to amaze, in that a blend of technical prowess, creativity, and raw rhythmic talent remains their staple. Don't expect necrophagist style super riffing, but the balance of straightforward power riffs with classically influenced harmonic/melodic phrasing that makes MDB both catchy and viable metal. I have listened to this band change and grow for a long time now, and Can honestly say they pass the test of a classic band that so few do, namely that they started out making such great music, and have only gotten better with age. (34.788% being a slight exception, but that's a different topic). For new fans this will fit I with their most recent works, and matches the band's trend toward increasingly musically mature offerings, but it doesn't lose any of the passion and intensity that made early MDB albums like As the Flower, Angel, ans Swans the epics they were. Go MDB, an take your place with the stones, zepplin, Sabbath, maiden, cream, and the who as one of England's greatest bands.

5.0 out of 5 stars This band just gets better and better July 3, 2013
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
I think this is probably the one band that has yet to make a record I have been disappointed in. The style is always AMAZING from the vocals to the instrumentals. Everything is what is given hope with this type of depressing, creative, artistic, and simply talented band. The Manuscript is an EP so naturally your only going to get a few songs and WANT MORE! However its all so worth the price and if your a fan of this band..CLEARLY something you can't live without

5.0 out of 5 stars My Dying Bride misery in a good way. April 17, 2014
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
So much better than their last cd. Makes me wish this was full length. Good low base sounds with lots of dark misery you can feel.
