5.0 out of 5 stars as pure as ganges, February 15, 2001
This review is from: Manusmriti; Contemporary Thoughts (Hardcover)
Firstly , I would say this book is the foundation , the base of Hindu religion ie .sanatan dharma (religion that ever was and ever will remain ) . It is the most respectable epic after Ramayana , Mahabharata , Gita etc .

For narrow political reasons this book is recently under heavy attack . The fact is except for the book everything can be blamed .

The book is as pure as water of gangotri(from where ganga , the holy river originates ). What we see today is not pure thoughts of Manu Maharaj but the thoughts that have polluted over thousands of years of flow .

Manu ji laid foundation of indian society . he defined relations between not only various classes , sections of the sociey but also defined their roles in forming a better society . He brought about a hierarchial order and defined it so neatly , that it was followed for thousand of years in indian subcontinent and form the basis and fabric till date .

Though the book is criticised for the rigid caste system it brought about , actually it was based on the work done by a person and not something hereditary .

and the book just doesn't talk about the caste system . It lays out the whole fabric of society , the relation between mother , father , son , daughter , son in law , daughter in law everbody for that matter . Though some thoughts of his are very shocking , very hateful but it is not the author but the society that has reviewed him .
