5.0 out of 5 stars Uplifting Spiritual Tunes
Great album by Gladys Knight. A model of classic praise music. Has become a CD that I put on to uplift me in times of sorrow. I have listened to the CD many, many times and I'm not tired of it yet. Although many of the songs are not her own creations, Knight performs them brialliantly. This album was released after Knight's conversion and entrance into the LDS Mormon...

2.0 out of 5 stars Not the same "road" as Diana Ross
Despite Gladys' feeling that she was overshadowed at Motown by Diana Ross, she is a decent vocalist and I commend her on her new spiritual direction after her struggles with gambling. If only Ms. Gladys could recapture the fun and soul of "Love Overboard" "Lovin' on Next to Nothing, and "Taste of Bitter Love", she would be on the right path...

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Spiritual, April 3, 2000
This review is from: Many Different Roads (Audio CD)
I frequently review, among other things, spritual and religious music for a local orginization and have fell in love again with Ms. Gladys Knight. In this Grammy nominated album, Knight has introduced some new music and some "oldies but goodies" to her fans of decades ago, as well as new fans yearning for some music with a breath of freash air. I now have found myself humming tunes from the CD all the time.

Opening with "Mercy's Arms", Knight's strong voice resounds conversion to something very close to her heart. I could tell this project meant a lot to her. Chosing a Juile de Azevedo piece was an excellent decision. deAzevedo has long since been a master of inspiriational music both in lyric and in music. I was pleased to see those two forces join talents in this project. Among my other favorites: "Open Your Eyes," and "Jesus Love is Like a River".

To those that did not feel this was a "Christian" album. You were right. However, to your loss, you missed the point of this work. These songs are described in Knight's own words as "inspirational." They have the ability to inspire all, not just the Christian. This is a great album. I enjoy a lot of music, and have reviewed many CD's. This one is now among my favorites. Gladys --- we are awaiting your next one with great anticipation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really enjoyable, January 28, 2002

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Many Different Roads (Audio CD)
This is the first Gladys Knight CD we've ever purchased. I've always loved her voice and the lyrical content of this CD was of greater interest to me. I enjoy many types of music, including Christian music, so this fit well into my collection. It's soft and strong all at the same time. I have since purchased this for two members of my family that enjoy Christian/Gospel music as well as Gladys Knight herself. I can safely say that you don't have to be limited to Christian music to enjoy the CD. The music is great and she's as great as she always is. I thoroughly enjoy listening to this CD. I'm so glad she put this out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Gladys delivers again!, January 31, 2005
This review is from: Many Different Roads (Audio CD)
I have had this CD in my CD changer for the past 2 years since I purchased it from Amazon. It is not strictly a "Christian" or "Gospel" album. In the liner notes, Knight defines the album as "inspirational", therefore it has cross-over appeal to different fans of different backgrounds.

The opening track, Mercy's Arms really helps me get through rough times. Knowing that the Lord is always ready to lead and forgive me is comforting. I also love the classic Precious Lord as it is a reaffirming song that God is who I need to guide me and speak to me.

There are other songs that are not linked to religion but address the humane need to look after one another. Take a listen to Open Our Eyes and Everybody. These songs are about humanity and compassion. True life lessons can be taken from the songs if you listen closely to the lyrics.

My favourite tracks include Mr. Love (a song that was originally released on Knight's second solo album, "Good Woman). Knight re-recorded the song and gave it a freshly updated sound. I also really love He Never Will, Jesus Love is Like A River and With A Smile.

Every moment spent listening to this album makes me feel really good and blessed. I encourage you to pick this one up. Gladys delivers again. This is truly some of her best work.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Loving Gift from a Gifted Lady, November 1, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Many Different Roads (Audio CD)
Gladys Knight remains one of the finest singers of all times. Her passion, sensitivity and outstanding vocal ability make this CD a spiritual experience not to be missed by anybody. What this CD does is envelope all walks of life and gives the uplifting message that we are loved by many others and the powers that created us.
If one views it as not being a "Christian" CD because it speaks of love, acceptance, tolerance and support for all people - not just a select catagorized few - than the definition of Christian is in question. Thank you Ms. Knight for such a beautiful and loving gift.

I liked the album and will play it occasionally. I am a Gladys fan and I enjoy religious music. It wasn't everything I hoped for but I think others should judge for themselves.

4.0 out of 5 stars One of the Great Soul Stirring Voices, August 26, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Many Different Roads (Audio CD)
Any album by Gladys is an event for me. She has a truly great voice which has held up better than those of even her greatest contemporaries (including Aretha). I approached this album with some trepidation, but the best tracks more than blew my doubts away. Mercy's Arms and Open Up Your Eyes are constantly on my car CD player, and Good Morning Heavenly Father makes me question why she does not collaborate with the awesome Sam Dees more. There are some filler tracks, but no more than on an average R&B album these days. On the good tracks Gladys' voice is warm, passionate and intense, just as one might expect. I wish her a long career as she enters her 6th decade in the business.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gladys -- brilliant voice, June 11, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Many Different Roads (Audio CD)
To the reviewer from Maine: "Decent" voice -- are you kidding? She has one of the all time great voices. Stop worrying about her supposed comments about Diana Ross and her gambling problem and concentrate on that magnificent instrument! You're missing out.

Love it, great CD. Not all perfect, but "Mercy's Arms" makes up for some of the rest.
