As part of the preparation for going into the Many Glacier area, some basic map reading skills are useful in an area where cell phones can have minimal effectiveness. This Trails Illustrated National Goegrphic map gives a preview of the area and some confidence by showing topography and trails. The maps were on thick paper, tear resistant, and waterproof. The map was large when unfolded. It covered a large area, where one inch on the map was 0.8 mile. Each contour interval was 50 feet.

If you hike the Many Glacier area, you need this map. My family hikes a good distance in a day and we have found this map very valuable. Where was that lake? Look at your map. Is it time to turn around? Look at your map. Lost? Look at your map. Want to mark a special place so you can find it again? Look at your map. Alternate route because a trail is closed? Check your map. Show the people at home where you hiked. It's great. Get it and go for it.

No trail distances are listed which is why I reviewed the map poorly. The quality of the map is very good and I have about 12-15 of the Nat Geo maps for various parks and they all have held up well.

I expected the map to be Glacier on one side and Waterton on the other, which is totally my fault to not realizing. It was missing the southern half of Glacier and Northern part of Watertown. I would have purchased separate Glacier and Waterton maps had I realized my mistake before ordering.

I used the chart a few times during my trip. It had enough detail to determine my location. It's just a little large for convenient handling, but a smaller chart would be difficult to read. The material it's printed on seems like it would stand up to rain and a at least a modest wind.

High level of detail. Waterproof certainly came in handy. All the trails and major hazards are clearly listed and the altitude change is easy to understand. This is a must if you are going to GNP and want to hike.

A very well done map. It has great detail. That being said, I did not realize that it only covered the northern part of Glacier and Waterton Lakes. You must buy at least two more maps to cover The entire park.
