5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Amazing! May 1, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I could not put this book down once I started reading it! It is fantastic! I cannot wait for the next book in this series to be released. The idea behind this book is easy to understand, and the characters are interesting, to say the least. I finished this within 2 days, but would have finished it sooner, had I had the time available. I wish I could give it more then 5 stars!! Definitely read this book, you will not be sorry!!

4.0 out of 5 stars a very enjoyable read... March 6, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
Avery can't sleep anymore and its wrecking havocs on her life, well if you can call it that. She is lonely and can only daydream of the local bartender, Dallas, falling in love with her. Yeah, as if that would ever happen. All he ever does is ask about her sexy friend Kerri. Then one day she meets Landon and Dallas also starts to show interest; things could be looking up for her after all. But when she is visited by her spirit guide she learns that Landon is not what he seems. Now Avery must decide who she should be with and if soul mates truly exist.

Gosh, isn't it just awful to have two guys vying for a girl's attention? Well, it's really not as easy as that seems. I was back and forth the entire book on who Avery should be with. One moment I just knew she should definitely be with Dallas, only to second guess my decision and think Landon would be a good choice.

This book had a really interesting storyline. I loved the idea of past lives and people having a choice to be reincarnated when they go to Heaven. And the fact that Landon could remember each of his lives from the moment he is a little child was fascinating.

I did have a little trouble with some of the conversations between it wasn't natural, forced almost. And I did notice quite a few typos.

But none the less, Sloat's debut novel is an enjoyable read that will take you on a journey through past lives and into an uncertain future.

3.0 out of 5 stars wanted to like it... May 3, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The premise of this book was interesting-sounding, and I was looking forward to reading it. I wanted to like it. Things just didn't work out that way.

The story, as far as I read, was entertaining. However, I couldn't get past two annoying aspects of the author's writing: she appears to hate commas and she adores the word "very". I made it midway through chapter 7 before I admitted defeat. The sad thing is, I wanted to know the rest of the story. The author captured my attention and made me want to know what happened next. That is a great accomplishment for an author.

The lack of commas may be a stylistic choice to emphasize the heroine's (Avery) first person narrative, a free-flowing free-association sleep-deprived kind of ramble. The author used other punctuation appropriately, so I could easily be persuaded that practically banning commas from Avery's rambling sentences is a conscious choice. As a reader, I hated it. That's a personal opinion, and your mileage may vary.

The thing that made me close the book, however, was noticing just how much the author loved the word "very". After I noticed it I couldn't un-notice it; it made me cringe and grind my teeth and try to think up every synonym for "very" I could think of. After a few chapters of this I gave up the effort in despair.

An example: The following paragraph exerpt follows Avery as she enters her doctor's office for the first time. "I was very nervous... She was very nice and she was gorgeous. I walked into her fabulous office and and sat down in a very comfy leather chair. ...and the lavender color was very calming. ... The smell of jasmine was very strong in here and it sort of bothered my nose. ... She was very pretty." All of this was in the same paragraph!

These things may not bother you, in which case I think you'll like the story. The Kindle formatting was good, and I didn't really notice any typos at all.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Many Lives of Avery Snow by Christy Sloat April 3, 2012
By Kappi
Format:Kindle Edition
Just finished reading The Many Lives of Avery Snow and must give my deepest respect to the author, Christy Sloat. I found this book to be very creative. I loved the Spirit Guides and the tiny details put into them to bring them to life. I loved the interaction between each character and felt that Avery was real, just like anyone you would meet on the street, someone I would like to meet.

This book was by no means perfect. I found the writing a bit stilted at times and it started off a little slow; however, for a first novel, I believe, Christy Sloat certainly accomplished what she set out to do: Was this a great story? Yes! Will I read the next? Yes, I can't wait! Do I have my favorite? You bet! Will I tell you who? Nope! :) I ask that you read this book and decide for yourself. You won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Many Lives of Avery Snow April 27, 2012

Learned about this book from Facebook. Was glad that it was available to rent with the Kindle Prime Membership. I read this book in about two days. I thought it was amazing from start to finish. I didn't want to put it down ever, but unfortunately there were times that I had to.

I loved all of the details that the author Christy Sloat gave for the characters. My favorites being the spirit guides. I loved the descriptions of Ianni and Lillith, and how everytime that Avery and Landon saw them their wings were different colors because it was against the rules. My other favorite character was Mr. Grey. I loved that he was kind of stand offish to Avery when she first met him, but then how he came to want no one but her.

I would totally recommend this book to others. It has many twists and turns, great characters, and an easy to follow story line.
