A Fun and Unusual Counting Book,
By
This review is from: How Many Snails?: A Counting Book (Counting Books (Greenwillow Books)) (Paperback)
This was one of my children's very favorite counting books when they were young. Instead of simply counting cupcakes or dogs or starfish, this book requires a child to notice small details of the objects and count different subsets of them. For the toy page for example, the child is asked to count all trucks, firetrucks only, and finally, fire trucks with ladders. The brightly colored illustrations are a pleasure, adding to the appeal of this fun and unusual counting book.

Fun for an older child,

Fun counting book but you child must be able to count up to 25. My 5 year old loves it. My 2 year old twins love it but we have to count different things. There are lots of ways to count each page. Not a quick read a bedtime though.

This book is fun! The text is very simple and strightforward. Clearly it is the math concepts that rule here. Preschool aged children get experience in counting groups of objects and also sorting things by characteristics. For example, the first question is, "How many snails?" and the second question would be, "How many snails with swirled shells?"
This book covers early childhood math concepts efficiently and in an engaging way. Highly recommended. |
