This book is a must read for those who follow the Extraterrestrial debate and how it might impact the challenge that modern science presents with regards theology.

Dr. Dick organizes the essays from many authors who's rolls in science and theology are superb. It is a book that does not make judgements but provides a lot of gris for thoughtful reflections.

If you were interested in what theological rethinking (presumably Christian) needs to be done in light of the last 25 years of astronomical observations of the visible Universe, you will be disappointed in most of the essays. The introduction to the book says it all about how the essays do not take the astounding facts of the new views of the universe into account: "Nor does this volume...have any such grandiose ambitions... and the result, while stimulating in itself, demonstrates how much remains to be done." p. viii of Introduction.

This book is a collection of essays offered by scientists of varied scientific and philosophical backgrounds. Some are theistic, some are not, but most think outside the box when discussing their inclinations and observations.

Read Arthur Peacoke's remarkable essay. The introduction to it alone revolutionizes the archaic Old Testament Genesis, and recounts creation with modern day phraseology. Others worthy of mention: Freeman Dyson's Many Worlds of Neurology, and Ernan McMullin's Life and Intelligence Far From Earth. Both essays are heavily steeped in the dialogue between science and religion.
