4.0 out of 5 stars Lithium Project, The - Many Worlds Theory, February 24, 2011
This review is from: Many World's Theory (Audio CD)
MANY WORLDS THEORY, the second outing for the Lithium Project, sees them embracing the downtempo world more wholeheartedly. "This Time" is a late-night head nodder (with some tech-lines thrown in), while "Spooky Action" has that film noir feel. "The Document" starts off like Nicola Conte on Valium, but veers into full-on jazz (reprised again in the short interlude "The Cosmologist"). The gentle beats of "Butterfly Effect" complement the melody well -- I can't say the same for the vocals on "Blue Feel," however. By the time the moody and string-laden "Majik Kiosk" comes along, it's clear that the Lithium Project knows how to put together a tune. I can't help but feel, though, that some of the excitement and energy that emerged on their first album is absent from this one. The music is more than competent, but less than mind-blowing. "Aspecto" shows more spirit, but the album closes on the ambient notes of "Outflow" (although there's a blues-hop hidden track at the very end). While certainly enjoyable, a little more punch would have made it outstanding.
