Editorial Reviews

''A fascinating blend of post-apocalyptic dread and blissed-out reverie...the root of what made California psych and post-psychedelic rock work.'' --Pitchfork

''Space-traveling fuzzbox boogie blowouts...blissed-out, sitar touched jangle...Consider your mind burst.'' --San Francisco Bay Guardian

''Assemble Head In Sunburst Sound paints a bright apocalypse'' --SF Weekly

Product Description

Critically admired and fan celebrated San Francisco psychedelic power rockers ASSEMBLE HEAD IN SUNBURST SOUND delivers a one-two punch of psychedelic power choogle and lunar outpost chillout on their long awaited new album Manzanita. The most realized document of the band's shape shifting powers yet, Manzanita is a gumbo of potent California psychedelic pop rock brimming and bubbling over with feeling, fuzz, soul, sunshine melancholy, feral ferocity and hook-laden mystery. The electrically colorful quartet, whose sound was once described as ''re-envisioning Spiritualized as a jam band,'' creates what can be described as ''post psych roc'' that is at once pastoral, menacing, leaden and ethereal. Or maybe the band themselves describe it all best: ''Imagine you're alone, and [our band's] along and we're playing you a gig - our last glorious supper on this giant abandoned space freighter, just before we're ripped asunder in the gravity of giant planets. That's what we're going for.''

4.0 out of 5 stars a mélange of psychedelic rock sounds September 15, 2012
Format:Audio CD
3rd album from San Francisco band--a mélange of psychedelic rock sounds seamlessly
integrated into varied approaches--hazy stoner prog-rock, West Coast acid sunshine, funky
backbeat soulful keyboard rock, trippy drug-guitar chant-rock, etc. The songs glide along with a
cohesive hippy-smooth 60s vibe that belies their diversity. Recalls bands like Sleepy Sun, the
Grateful Dead, Buffalo Killers, Wooden Shjips, the Strawberry Alarm Clock, Dream Syndicate.
A satisfying, head-nodding bong-smoke listen for rockers & dreamers.
