Brilliant work of management genius!,
This review is from: Mao in the Boardroom: Marketing Genius from the Mind of the Master Guerrilla (Paperback)
Even if you've never wondered how Chairman Mao would behave in today's U.S. corporate world, fortunately, this insightful author has. Stricker has provided us with a metaphorical manuscript that crosses all boundaries and includes all the wisdom any Wall Street Warrior needs.

Extremely Relevant, Useful and Chuckle-Out-Loud Funny,

This review is from: Mao in the Boardroom: Marketing Genius from the Mind of the Master Guerrilla (Paperback)
I already bought a copy and will be purchasing a few more for my colleagues and clients as gifts soon. This is excellent and entertaining reading for anyone who wants to learn how to be agile in a fast-paced market. And, when is the business world not fast-paced? If you stop adjusting, adapting, or don't keep fighting, you will lose opportunities and business, or simply fall behind and get lost among your competition. The book has modern, good-natured and useful reminders to keep you motivated just when you feel you're doing well enough or, maybe not well enough yet, such as: 'As long as we're still fighting, we are, by default, still winning.' The book includes case studies on brands we can't escape and seem to have no choice respecting or loving for their successes, even during the downturn -- AT&T, Tar-zhay, Maxim, eBay and HBO. So, these and the many others should be interesting to everyone. And, it's fun reading along the way. Well worth the money. If anything, this is a good book to put on your desk or coffee table to impress your smart, witty friends and intimidate co-workers passing through your office --yeah, a companion to your well-handled Art of War by Sun Tzu, showing them your knowledge goes way back and you're always at least three moves ahead.

Light on business jargon, heavy on creativity,

This book is different. We are given a new path from which to wander, without confusing or mis-marked signposts, without parental attendants constantly giving us outdated directions to our goal. This book is different. We are amused by the Chairman's childlike, whimsical manner and drawn to the stylish cover design, including the back cover that gives us the breakdown of the "nutritional" value this book will have on us. This book is designed so that a small child could pick it up and enjoy its design, and perhaps some content, yet gives weighty references and draws links to some very interesting ideas and business success using those ideas, that even the most business savvy could learn something. This book is styled and hyped for success, and as it lives up to its content, you WILL be seeing it.

The author, Mr. Stricker, has come through with a masterful volume of the great general's take on modern day marketing madness! This is a must for anyone trying to take over the world. Or even your neighborhood-friendly green and white colored java shop.I can't wait for Mr. Stricker's next stroke of brilliance!

Mr. Sticker takes us on a whimisical journey over the Great Wall through Wall Street into Doonesbury's Walden College. It was the best fifteen bucks I ever spent for reading material except maybe when little Will Hobbs brought those "Men's Magazines" he lifted from his father back at Middle School. I am thinking of painting my entire bathroom red. Mao would have wanted it that way.

This book is fluff. Hint: There's a review of the book from Maxim Magazine (great mag, but not for business) on the back cover. Book formula is "Here's this concept. Let's spend about two pages on it, and then about two pages on an real-world example. There isn't enough time spent on the concept, or the real-world example.I picked this book up at the airport for something to read on a short trip, without checking out any Amazon reviews on it. Learn from my mistake - do yourself a favor, pass over this book.

Decent, but do what I did--read it in the store. While light-hearted and often amusing, do not go to this text if you are looking for resourceful marketing ideas and strategies. As other reviewers have noted, the analyisis is sparse. The case studies are on point, that I will admit; however, a how and why is the backbone of any rigorous work that wants to be taken seriously. Unfortunately, this text positions itself in quite another vein.

This book really is tripe, from the perspective of actually learning anything about guerrilla marketing other then a series of extremely brief case studies. The examples were good, and brought to light a few interesting ideas, but at the end of the day the author simply presented these one after the other, alongside a series of pictures of chairman mao photoshopped in. The issue was none of these examples were followed through in anyway, and there was zero analysis. While the author clearly made an attempt to make this book light hearted and amusing, it really didn't work, and ultimately provided very little useful information and made light of the attrocities commited by this dictator. I simply cannot reccomend it to anyone.

If we learned anything from battling those soul destroying commies over the years it's that they have a fantastic sense of humor and a love of primary colors. Well at least one.Now a new book you can actually read, rather than just carry around to display your leftie credentials. Stricker squeezes the great man's wisdom through the press of business advice, yielding advice that has practical value in the running-dog corporate world. Illustrative examples of desirable behavior and the right kind of thinking are up-to-date and applicable across many business situations. I don't know what else this Stricker fellow has done, but I say "Bravo" for this effort.

Gorillas Be Damned!!,
This review is from: Mao in the Boardroom: Marketing Genius from the Mind of the Master Guerrilla (Paperback)
I was incredibly surprised to find that the this wonderful book had nothing to do with large hairy apes, but rather the successes of such other GIANTS as Skyy Vodka, Ben & Jerry, AT&T, and the Amazon books(neither "guerillas" OR "gorillas").You can not turn a page without leafing / laughing through it and having fun AND great information fall through your brain and onto your fellow traveler. This could be the World's Earliest Xmas Present. |
