Editorial Reviews

From Library Journal

The object of this bookand one it carries out very wellis to present general information about the many types of maps available, describe them, and give sources from which to purchase them. It is divided into "Land Maps" (two-thirds of the book), "Sky Maps," "Water Maps," and "Map Products," with appendixes giving major map publishers' addresses and selected map libraries and map stores. It includes only items in print, daringly noting prices. There is some repetition, minor incorrect information (e.g., the National Cartographic Information Center does not sell maps), and some omissions (e.g., a map library closed to the public in Colorado is listed; the largest collection in the state is not), but overall, this is an attractive, very useful book, especially appropriate for reference in public and academic libraries. 5.0 out of 5 stars Where to find your maps., January 2, 2004

If your the adventurous type and are wondering where you can find that certain map, then this just might be the book for you. Learn where to obtain all different kinds of Land Maps such as Aerial, Agricultural, Census, CIA, Foreign, Geological, Space Imagery, Treasure, etc.. Also where to find Sky Maps, Water Maps and Map products. It is an old book, so some of the addresses may be outdated, but with the internet nowadays this book should give you a starting point on where to search for those illusive maps.

3.0 out of 5 stars Valuable information in a fragile package, February 11, 2001
This review is from: The Map Catalog (Hardcover)
This is a great collection of information about maps and charts for almost every purpose, on land or sea or in the air. Many, many kinds of maps are represented here, together with information about places to get them.

The book has a so-called "perfect binding" (signatures are glued together, not sewn). And, since the pages are very heavy because they are coated with clay in order to be glossy, sections of the book tend to pull loose from the spine. A long-lived reference work such as this one ought to be sewn together, not glued.
