Great cardstock quality, excellent color and fun to build. You can put together a great town/village for any RPG setting. Highly recommended.
Unfortunately, the other reviewer didn't understand the imaging on the covers. You can indeed build a castle. You only need to buy additional copies of the map folio and combine walls and towers! Also, you can download additional buildings from Wizards of the Coast for free to supplement your town.

Provides 3-d cutouts to use with miniature play. Adds a touch of realism to the game to backup the DM's description. Easy to assemble, and fun to use.

These buildings look fantastic when put together!
Make sure you have an Xacto knife, cutting surface and a quick dry super glue when assembling as this will make your life much easier than using only scissors and Elmer's glue.... I regular use these for 25mm taletop miniature war games such as Warhammer Fantasy, Warmachine, and Hordes.

I bought two of them because it was such a good deal, or seemed to be. This was a terrible mistake. The buildings are not bad looking, but not at a good scale for using with the D&D minis, if that's what you're going for. There are NO instructions whatsover. The tower is square - four sided, not eight as the inside implies. The top of the tower is rectangular, not square. THERE IS NO CASTLE. There's one single wall, so you would need 4 of these to even start making a castle. There are no triangular shaped castle tops. The only thing I really like in the set is the smithy, although I haven't put it together yet. The inn is alright, but looks more like a chapel, with a very steeply slanted roof.
I stongly advise to skip this set.

Great,

This map folio is awsome. It really helps for towns and in town adventures. I recomend it to everyone who plays site based adventures. That other guy who gave it one star doesn't know what he is talking about because this map folio is great.

First of all, I must say that the buildings in and of themselves in this book are rather well designed and flawless in their rpg value. Much like what you may find in the Warhammer line of games, this can be used in a variety of rp systems. That in and of itself is good. However, however I want to make it clear that there is one major problem with this book of buildings--the picture on the front shows a castle...the picture on the back shows a castle...there is NO castle in this booklet. You get a wall, a cottage, a tower, an inn, a smithy, and a outbuilding. But if you are expecting to have a nicely designed castle in this book...you aren't going to find it. That in and of itself is the reason I give this a one star. I consider that false advertising so to speak. I work in retail and when I told a customer the fact I am letting you (potential buyers you are) about this, he too was very upset. Of course this book is about ten dollars, give or take a penny, so its not like you are shelling out the Warhammer kind of dollars (in the fifty to 100 range of $$$). Still, as the book does not contain the castle, which looks pretty spiffy at least via the front and back cover, there is a sour note to this purchase.
In the end, yes the buildings are a wonderful addition to one's games, but I and some of my buyers have been miffed by the fact that you belief you are getting not just the buildings that you do get, but also the castle...which would have given this a five star review. |
