Music for the soul,

Listen to the words, and listen to the sound of Kate Markowitz's powerful voice. A career session and back up vocalist to the superstars, Kate Markowitz captivated me with her depth and sound. THe music has a nice rhythm, one that she says was influenced by the Brazilian music she listened to as a kid, as well as the R & B, Motown and the performers she accompanied, including James Taylor and Shawn Colvin. I cried when I listened to I Remember You, a tribute to her late parents and to the late JT band member and friend, Don Grolnick. It is about life, loss and learning. And it is about romance. The last song, Who Needs the Spring, was written by her parents to each other. It is better than comfort food for the soul. I love Kate's music!

This is one record you can easily make friends with. Kate has an amazing talent for writing songs with true meaning, not to mention sing them with her ever so alluring voice. I couldn't agree more with the Kate Kills review, as I have seen Kate numerous times with James, and it is great to hear her solo. Keep them coming Kate.....

I've seen Kate Markowitz perform many times backing up James Taylor and Shawn Colvin - and it's great to see (and hear) Kate finally taking the spotlight on this solo cd - and with no less talent supporting her than Taylor, Colvin, David Lasley and Arnold McCuller. This is a very rich collection of music and a beautifully produced cd - and I expect to listen to it again and again. Kudos, Kate.

Lyrics that speak from the heart and soul,

I am a singer/songwriter. What attracts me to a song is the vocal presentation of a lyric that sparks an undeniable emotion in me that speaks directly to the heart, to the soul, to the mind. Listening to "Map of the World" evokes this type of emotion over and over again. My favorite example of this is in the following verse from "Birds of a Feather":I want to read the book The book that you are reading I want to watch you cook And taste what you are tasting I want to wake you up With me by your side... Today These are the sentiments of a truly incurable romantic. Kate's music, voice and lyrics allow us to share her introspection through our sences. I wish and still hope that there will be a followup to this CD. Give it a listen...you'll be glad you did.

The song My LA is a really great song which features a consistant hallelujah. It is a mellow yet surprisingly spiritual song that is my favorite song of the album so far.
