This was exactly what I was looking for. Super fast surface, heavy so it doesn't slide, and a real nice width and depth. It doesn't mark overly easy either. The height works perfect on my countertop that I don't have that slight bend in my back like I had with other thinner boards. That was something very important for me when selecting a board. My knees and back are thankful. What a difference that bit of extra height makes. If you place a dry paper towel underneath it not only protects the countertop but further helps with the weight for ZERO board movement while in use. Once you treat the board with the proper oil, the colors really pop. It looks fantastic. As a long time foodie and now an older culinary student, I had the patience, stubborness, and money to search for the right tool till if found it. This is it. I bought it a month ago and I literally use this everyday at home. I have no regrets other than it took me so long to find this. It is a permanent fixture for our kitchen counter and was the missing piece all along. Great product. I highly recommend this.

The shipment packaging was clearly an afterthought. From the inside out, the block is barely protected by a heat shrunk plastic wrap, thin corrugated cardboard, and bond with two plastic binders. Given it's heft and how likely UPS/FedEx workers throw packages around to meet our insatiable need for "right now", I would've expected there to be some type of cushioning around the edges. Nope. Nothing. Luckily, there was only a slight blemish on one of the edges. Despite being wrapped in plastic, there was mysterious coating of dust on the block. No big deal. A couple of coats of a beeswax based protector, and your block will be glow. This thing is gorgeous and will be used on a daily basis. A one star deduction for crappy packaging.

The block was beautiful. No blemishes on the surface like some others mentioned and my son (a chef) was very pleased. Prior to ordering I looked at other blocks in a store and this one was much less expensive, larger AND the surface was prettier. Highly recommend.

I own the Boos block that is the same size but only 2.25 inches thick. Compared to this chopping block - the Boos looks like a cheese board now. This block is prettier and the end grain is far better for cutting. What I have found is the Boos board is not end grain and the knife will "move" left and right while cutting and chopping - this block does not move the knife at all. So without hesitation I highly recommend this chopping block - you will not be disappointed. AND for the money, this is a steal. Happy chopping.

I received my chopping block with two large dings on the edges and what appears to be stains that were under the shrink wrap from the factory. I contacted the manufacturer and they didn't respond. I assume since you are getting a $300 chopping block for less than a hundred bucks that you get what you pay for. Overall I'm happy with the chopping block, it looks great in my kitchen and no one really notices the dings or small stains here and there. I just wish someone would have told me about the reduced quality that goes along with the discounted price.

This chopping block is great...not too big, not too small. It's extremely heavy but that's great because it doesn't slip on my countertop! So far, it's been exactly as described and I couldn't be happier!

First, I will start off with how solid this chopping block is. Really nice and will serve me probably a lifetime of use. For under $100 not too many items will hold up that long.

The only issues I will warn people about is that some of the pieces of wood, not many, have small gaps in them... very small, but will create issues with food getting caught in them from time to time. Small enough "holes" or "gauges" that I can see if something tiny gets in there a sponge might not get it out if it's wedged in, and yet large enough that if I sand it down I will be taking too much thickness from the board to make it worthwhile. Oh, yeah, on that note I will also add that the sides and especially the corners do need to be sanded down some before using.

The other issue is with the packaging. This block is wrapped in thin plastic and placed in a cardboard packing box and has no bubble wrap of any kind. Perhaps if it did, when it was apparently dropped on one of the corners, the wood might not have caved in a bit. I will have to sand it down when I get a chance and re-apply the butcher block oil and it should be fine, but a little bubble wrap at least on the corners would have insured a safer arrival through the UPS journey.

All that said, I am sure to be happy with the stability and extra height this chopping block will give me. I didn't think 3 1/2 inches of height on the counter would make such a difference in my posture while doing my prep work, but it really does. I have been sufferring backaches within minutes of prepping meals for some time now and I am hopeful this thick block will help with that. I will update in a few weeks to let you know on that.

UPDATE: I so love this chopping block. I use it multiple times a day, seven days a week.
