5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Incredible, May 28, 2000

Fans of Michael W. Smith's "i(2)eye" and Amy Grant's "Lead Me On" and "Behind the Eyes" will love this album. Wayne has written songs for both of these artists, as well as many others. The music is very similar in style to the Garth Brooks/Chris Gaines CD. There are only a handful of songwriters in ANY genre of music that match Wayne's depth, sensitivity and ability to craft a great song.

It is a shame that this album is not being promoted as heavily as other new releases because it is so much deeper and more well-written than just about anything else you hear on the radio.

We often hear that music by Christian artists does not have as high a quality as "secular" artists, but this CD surpasses most of what's on Christian or secular radio. If you like "thinking person's music" then you will LOVE this CD.

Now, if we could just get a collaboration between the two greatest songwriters, Wayne K. and Steven Curtis Chapman...

5.0 out of 5 stars Fresher then the sweet smell of freshly cut Maple wood, January 14, 2003

I first heard Wayne Kirkpatrick several months ago on Christian Radio K-Love. They played "It's Me Again" from the Rocket Town Sampler (a great cd I might add) and I was captured. What a fresh breath of air that was.
What I heard was a mix of the Beatles, Graham Nash, America, as well as British Pop. Definetly a touch of British magic in his sound with such smooth and vibrant vocals.
I don't usually like to compare Christian music to secular music but I find it is sometimes nessasary to help make that comparison.
This recording is a must whether you are a Christian like myself, or a non-Christian. Hope this sells tons of copies.
I really have a lot of respect for the freedom that Don Donahue and Micheal W. Smith have given to thier musicians over at Rockettown Records. Finally, a label that is willing to "let the tape roll."
Wayne, thanks for the great songs.
God bless you and I await impatiently for your next release.....Bob Plourde, Arizona

5.0 out of 5 stars Songwriting At Its Best!, November 26, 2001
This review is from: The Maple Room (Audio CD)
Wayne is my favorite songwriter of all time and I am so thrilled to hear him singing his own material! The cd is just wonderful. The lyrics are insightful and really get to the heart of what is going on inside most of us - the doubts, the fears, the joys. A couple of songs are very reminiscent of Kenny Loggins while others are reminiscent of Garth Brooks' Chris Gaines (appropriate since Wayne wrote many tracks on that cd)! If you like really listening to and reading lyrics, this song is for you! No fluff, ingenious rhymes and unusual words not usually heard in music, but somehow he makes them work! He's a true songwriter's songwriter!

I own hundreds of CD's from all kinds of music and this is one of the best of all! Wayne not only can write for others, he can really sing. Good, clear, soft voice. He sounds like a mixture of Phil Keaggy and Wes King. Excellent! I really like song number four: Blame It On Your Mother. It seems to be a fad these days to blame all your problems on some childhood flaw, and this song addresses that issue. The other songs are just as important too with great messages. I noticed that Susan Ashton does some vocals on this CD too. Excellent choice of background vocals. Good job Wayne!

4.0 out of 5 stars It's about time..., June 8, 2000

that Wayne Kirkpatrick put his own lyrics to music. The man who made Michael W. Smith and Amy Grant's music has amazed and impressed us with this CD. Wayne's insight makes this CD a easy listen.

One of the most well written albums... brilliant lyrically and melodically with a fabulously diverse production in the nuances and instrumentation and arrangement of vocals. While not totaly void of any essence that has made him a monument in the christian music field, it lyricaly speaks so deeply to the soul it can't help but move you (believers or not)! Its nothing less than a masterpiece!

5.0 out of 5 stars this is the best!!, August 21, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Maple Room (Audio CD)
I just have to say, what a superior album this is! I just took a road trip to Colorado from Texas, and brought my traditional 12 CDs with me, including my new copy of The Maple Room and I have to say it moved me so much that I listened to it about 10 times over the 26 hours of driving!!

If you knew me, you'd know this is a rare occurence, I usually listen to an album once, put it away for a few weeks then listen to it again, but this album was so stunning, I couldn't stop myself! The craft that Wayne uses on this recording is that of an extremely well honed writer... I can't say enough good things about this CD and will recommend it to my friends whole-heartedly!

Regardless whether you are a sacred (Christian) or a secular (like me) music fan, these heart-felt songs will move you!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A very good listen..., April 20, 2006

I'm surprised this album is no longer available for purchase. I wondered about this album when it came out but it took 6 years later to actually find a copy. The songs on this album are very beautiful. The words and music are very good. The album overall has a soft production but that doesn't take away from it's quality. I hope Wayne releases more music in the near future, get his name out there. Very talented song writer and now, performer.

5.0 out of 5 stars It doesn't get much better, May 21, 2000

Wayne Kirkpatrick has long been one of Christian music's best songwriters. He's written or co-written many of the most popular songs recorded by Michael W. Smith, Amy Grant, Susan Ashton, and others. Now he he has put out his own album, and it's an absolute treasure. As always, his lyrics nail it--they tell it like it is. If you can't relate to "Blame it on Your Mother", "In Another Light", or "Window in that Wall", then you just haven't lived long enough yet. And the music is just as well crafted as the lyrics. You can plan on "Arms of Love" replaying in your head long after the first listen. And "Hanging by a Thread" and "Everywhere" are just exquisite. Personal, heartfelt, honest, and just plain gorgeous--you can hardly ask for more from an album. Here's hoping that this is the first of many from Wayne.
