Great Resource Book,

This review is from: Maple Syrup Book, The (Paperback)
When I bought this book there was no review, so I took a chance but this turned out to be the most valuable book I bought about sugaring. It tells stories, has projects, games, recipes, jokes, how-tos, knowledge. This book is not a "story" book, it's a black & white illustrated book to teach children everything about sugaring in a fun sort of way. It's well worth the price!

Two thumbs up from a maple syrup producer/homeschool parent,

This review is from: Maple Syrup Book, The (Paperback)
As a homeschooling mother whose family makes maple syrup in Michigan, I keep my eye out for children's books about sugaring. "The Maple Syrup Book" is very good. It's not a story book, but an informational book geared toward children ages 8-12. It explains all the basics about maple syrup, from how and why the tree makes sap to how syrup was made by the Native Americans, pioneers and how it's made now. It uses kid-friendly language, such as, "If you could shrink and crawl inside a maple leaf, you'd find yourself in an efficient sugar-making factory and transportation system."
The book even has recipes (metric), facts, trivia, activities such as making a Native sap container, and puzzles. I enjoyed the two case studies of modern sugarmakers who collect and boil sap in different ways. I found the book to be accurate and well-written.

I googled my name to see what was out there on me, and this link came up, I had forgotten I had written this way back when I purchased this book some.....years ago. Anyway, I still stand behind my review but the price shocked me. None available new but the used beginning at $32, I knew there was no way I'd spend that. I ran to check my book and the list price is $7.95. It is a great book but $32, shame on you for taking advantage of people since there is none available that's new!!!!!
