very soothing to a gearhead, September 13, 2009

Its difficult to understand this clock if you haven't seen it run, so here you go. When we first got it, it was jerky and neither ran evenly, correctly, nor quietly. A bit of inspection showed a wire from a battery was interfering with one of the gears. Moving that down, out of the way, has completely solved that problem. It now runs smoothly, correctly, and quietly. The wire problem does highlight the only drawback, which is that the outer rider gears are being driven by the motor that drives the hands. So if something gets shoved up against it to block the outer gears, the clock will not tell time correctly. It also makes a click-click noise when this happens, so I've always noticed, but it could easily happen that you didn't.

Fun to look at... neat conversation piece., April 1, 2008
This review is from: Maple's Clock TCL06-333 Moving Gear Desktop Clock (Misc.)
Bought for my Asperger's son since he is really into motion and gears. He seems to like it. First, it's much bigger than I expected, about the diameter of a soccer ball and close to 3 inches wide. It's a bit on the bulky size, so make sure you have room for it. Like I noted earlier, the clock was larger than I expected. Takes two C batteries. The actual gears are made of silver plastic, not metal. It is very quiet and the gears move pretty slow. You have to look closely to see them move. It actually is very neat to watch. It would be a conversation piece for an office. Looks just like the picture. The only big con for me is that it's not made of metal and the silver plastic, although seems pretty durable, looks a little inexpensive. I think this clock would be worth about $20.00-$25.00 at most.

looks awesome in the garage, April 28, 2008

this is a great product if you want a cool looking clock. Being a mechanical engineer, I really liked this clock. Looks great in my garage. Its a bit noisy, so I would recommend not to have it in the living room (and that is why I rated it with 4 stars).
