5.0 out of 5 stars Great live!!
Just caught this band last night as part of a 4 band show. The CD captures their sound which is complex and very compelling. The rythem section is one of the all time best and tightest I've seen. Buy the CD and watch for these guys playing in your town.

2.0 out of 5 stars Bland, Boring. Disappointing.
Don't be fooled by the Amazon review where at the end it says: "For fans of Sunny Day Real Estate, Death Cab For Cutie, Ben Folds, and Jimmy Eat World."

If you buy this album based on that, you'll be sorely disappointed. These guys make Something Corporate sound hardcore. Many of the songs sound eerily similar and they all have a very slow dragging quality...

4.0 out of 5 stars A little cheesy but still has some great tunes - overall a pretty good indie rock album - 4.5 stars, June 26, 2005
This review is from: Mapping an Invisible World (Audio CD)
Days Away's "Mapping An Invisible World" is a very good indie rock album with a couple flaws. Like a lot of other similar albums, it's a bit cheesy and a guilty pleasure (the singer isn't that likable I would argue). The lyrics aren't really that interesting either. However, they definitely know how to create some very catchy songs. The musicianship verges on great, and it's usually fun to listen to. I don't think that it's for everyone, but indie rock fans might like this. "Gods & Mars" definitely gives it some greater appeal, though. That track alone bumps it to a "4.5" from a "4". Overall I think I would recommend this.

Highlights include:
"Gods & Mars"
the rest are good, too, but that is the best one here

5.0 out of 5 stars Moody/melodic/Indie, May 11, 2005
This review is from: Mapping an Invisible World (Audio CD)
I remember being introduced to Days Away in 2003 at one of Straylight Run's first shows in NYC. Their old ep/demos were very much indie/pop-punk, but what grabbed me was there musicianship live. The rythm was very tight and resonated well with the melody. On Mapping... the musicianship came out a lot more, thanks to their move to a much better Indie label (Fueled by Ramen) then they had ever been apart of. This release is probably more for the indie/alt fans, but pop-punk fans should give it a chance. (sounds like Sunny Day Real Estate, Death Cab for Cutie, and even a hint of the Beach Boys)

If you like/dislike let me know

5.0 out of 5 stars nice album, January 16, 2006

i really like days away's style. they are a great indie band that is mellow enough to listen to while you are working on something else, but there's enough substance to enjoy what you're listening to. the songs are super catchy and very melodic. you can't help but sway and sing along to the songs. a great album and worth taking a listen to.

when i first heard this group, i downloaded their tracks, "mirrors" and "stay the same" i had almost written them off as something simular to jimmy eats world, or dashboard confession...but when i finally invested in the cd, they started to come off more to me like taking back sunday, or to a more similar degree-armor for sleep...the music was very nice from track to track, not too loud, but at the same time not to mellow to put me to sleep. i recommended this album to my sister, who also has similar tastes, and even she liked it. i just wish these guys would get more exposure, coz this is a really good cd.

One plus is that the songs do present a good message. But that's about it.

Fueled By Ramen usually signs some great artists but I think they may have missed on these guys. Sorry, it's just not that good. I'd give this cd away.
