About the Author

Robert Mapplethorpe was born in 1946 and was raised in Long Island, New York. He received a B.F.A. from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn. By the early 1980s, he challenged the definition of photography with new techniques and formats. Mapplethorpe continued to create powerful images until his death from AIDS in 1989.

It's a little too late for Mothers' Day, but I have it on the authority of The Mapplethorpe Foundation that there are absolutely NO NUDES WHATSOEVER in THE COMPLETE BOOK OF FLOWERS! So for those of you who may be thinking of giving your mom or a treasured gal pal (or guy pal!) this book, rest assured: I made the phone call, and there's not one nude in the entire book. It's truly Mapplethorpe's COMPLETE BOOK OF FLOWERS. And Amazon's prices are excellent, as The Mapplethorpe Foundation is charging $150 for the tome. Not that they don't deserve the money...
