5.0 out of 5 stars One of a kind band., November 25, 2006
This review is from: Mappy Land (Audio CD)
Indeed this is an unheard gem of an album. Cut and paste stylings, lucid dream lyrics...
Similar in idology to early Flaming Lips or early Mercury Rev but littered with drum machines and synths instead of reverb or white noise.
If Brian Eno still worked with David Bowie and they still lived in berlin (and they were still in their late 20's) it wouldn't be too far off the quarky sound and stylings of this young band.
Oh, Mixel Pixel gets 5 stars for their shows too. Definately better than average on stage, however their studio work is unmistakeabally their own.
If you like Mixel Pixel look for The Eastern Stars (it's Rob and Kaia's side project) -- they sound more like Camera Obscura or Yo La Tengo.

Goofy and jangly folk songs with the feeling of Beck's One Foot in the Grave and Captain Beefheart's Trout Mask Replica (note: Captain Beefheart has avant-garde influences and gives an absurd side to usually basic forms of music) mixed in with sound clips from several 80's video game classics. On the verge of insane genius!
