5.0 out of 5 stars Yeah Yeah Yeahs* Maps
Even though this CD is only of 4 songs, I needed to buy it after hearing those 4 songs. The first song, I can never stop listening to, and everytime I play it over and over again, it still seems as if I've listened to it the first time. 'Cause you know, that if you listen to a very good song that you absolutely love for the very first time, you fall in love with it...

3.0 out of 5 stars For clarification
While another reviewer stated that there are no other versions of the song, he is incorrect. The above MP3 is a live recording of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs playing Maps. The reason it is 6 minutes long, rather than 3 is because the intro is extended while she thanks various people, etc. Once she gets into the song itself, it is a little more raw and not quite as smooth as...

I recommend that you buy all of Yeah Yeah Yeah's CD's and please do recognize the unbelievable talent the singer and band members have.

4.0 out of 5 stars the best cd single to come across..., March 14, 2007
This review is from: Maps/Countdown/Miles Away (Audio CD)
okay if you attempt to buy the import version is will be up to 21 $ + shipping but hey the domestic is availible!! plus costs less and same tracks, don't know why you people would be extra money if the import does not have any extra stuff on it (it's just a slim case instead of a regular one) besides maps is a key song in these though countdown does wheredown, then there is the new recording of MILES AWAY which is great!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Gritty and great, January 12, 2005
This review is from: Maps (Audio CD)
I love this single, maps is a great song, and Karen O shows us that she can really sing. The second track, countdown is the jewel of this single and worth the price alone in my opinion. A great and gritty rock song with Karen O in great form.

5.0 out of 5 stars Aww you people annoy me!, September 6, 2005
This review is from: Maps/Countdown/Miles Away (Audio CD)
It irritates me when people compare this band to others...let me tell you now...this hasn't been done before!
There are absolutely no comparisons to any other rock band that has been or is present...they simply fit into their own slot and do it so well.
I think that the "sparseness" and absence of bass only shows just how good this band are for them to create such a massive, powerful sound.
I think the lyrics will appear badly to people because you just haven't opened your minds enough, or don't like poetic lyrics that actually make you think and put your own take on them.
The fact that Maps and Miles Away are on the same cd show that they're not boring or samey...only that they can do sensitive, reflecting music and all out smash the place up stomps...and very well at that!
Fair enough...people feel that Maps is a mis-representation of what the YYY's are about...i disagree though.

2.0 out of 5 stars Definitely not worth it., June 2, 2004

First off, the single is going for $11+ online and contains only 3 songs and a video while you can pick up the full-length album for $10 or less in most record stores.

There are no special versions of "Maps" and the music video isn't even in that great of quality, so they really don't make the single worth it. And while it is nice to have the other two unreleased songs, they wreak of "songs that didn't make the cut for the full length CD". They're much more low key than all of the material on Fever to Tell and aren't exciting at all.

You'd be much better off using the money to buy one of their full-length CDs.

2.0 out of 5 stars one good song, two not good, March 2, 2004

"Maps" - interesting video. Very interesting song. Has a feel that reminds me of Joy Division/early New Order. The singer sounds just like Siouxsie of Siouxsie and the Banshees. Much promise here, but the absence of a bass to support climaxes and high points is noticable. Great guitar playing and drumming, though.

The other two songs are awful. They are completely different stylistically speaking from "Maps" . The sound to me like bad Joan Jett songs made worse by the sparce instrumentation. Lyrically, they're uninteresting, uninspired and un-original. It's been done before, folks...

Too bad. "Maps" has great promise, but the other two tracks fail miserably. I was going to buy the full album, but after hearing this ep, I'll stick with the one song I like.
