Bethania owns all the oceans,

This review is from: Mar De Sophia (Audio CD)
This one part of a two part project released in 2006 best enshrines Bethania's love for the oceans.Aided by the unusual music smarts of Nana Vasconcelos and the expertise of her maestro Jaime Alem, the ride turns into a tale about the history of Brazilians' love affair with the sea.In it,the ORIXAS play a pivotal role.Just check CANTO DE OXUM & CANTO DE NANA.Bethania's voice is at her best especially in tracks such as Chico Cesar's GRAO DE MAR and the classic MARINHEIRO SOU.Her torch song singer abilities come full circle in LAGRIMA making us reminisce of some her classic works. The strength and intensity of BEIRA-MAR and the cynical DEBAIXO D'AGUA/AGORA remind you of her versatility..so necessary to have carried her this far with success.

Excellent album by Veteran Brazilian singer,

This review is from: Mar De Sophia (Audio CD)
A CD of wonderful music by veteran Brazilian singer Maria Bethania (sister of another great legendary singer from Brazil, Caetano Veloso). The title traslates as Sea of Sophia, and most of the songs deal with the sea, and its myths. All the CD is a pleasure to listen, but if one has to list the best tracks, that would be Iemanja Ranha do Mar (about the Sea Goddess in the Yoruba/Candomble religion), Debaixo D'Agua/Agora, Memorias do Mar and A Dona do Raio e do vento.
