5.0 out of 5 stars Marantz rc9500 Universal remote, June 5, 2011
This review is from: Marantz RC9500 Color Touch Screen Learning Universal Remote (Electronics)
This remote is one of the "man's best friend" replacements for the family dog. This fully programable remote can run any piece of A/V equipment from the TV or stereo to RF or IR lighting and automatic blinds. If you have a home theater set up with multiple components, your friendly RC9500 can turn everything on with the push of one button, and even tune to your favorite channel while adjusting your theater lighing at the same time. This remote truly is amazing. Programming can be a little tricky especially trying to find out the proper codes for some gadgets, but this remote also has the ability to learn from other remotes, and gives you the ability to create and design your own button panels for each component. It learns the code of any function or button of another remote, thus eliminating the need for countless remotes for each piece of equipment. It's got a beautiful color touch screen with many options for button design and function with some very sharp detail. The remote itself is asthetically pleasing to the eye. The sellers stats are a little off as far as the weight goes, they've listed it as 10.6 pounds, but the remote with docking station and power cord and any other accessories can't weigh more than a collective 2 or 3 pounds.(that includes the original box) A great product none-the-less, but obviously someone over at Marantz didn't think it was worth carrying on since they have discontinued this model and series of universal remotes. Given the fact that these are no longer in production, $650.00 is extremely high even for a brand new one right out of the box, so an even slightly used unit really doesn't garner anything above the $250 - $300 mark. Especially if you consider they've been discontinued, which means, no warranty, expensive if not impossible to repair depending on the problem, and no firmware updates for ease of integration with the latest and greatest electronics. That being said, if you can get one thats still in decent to good shape, I'd highly advise you to pick one up!
