4.0 out of 5 stars Good Deal
I'm on my second Marantz amp because I upgraded from the 4000 series. I like the Marantz as it has a 'warm' sound, as opposed to, for example, a Rotel which is a superb amp but too 'clinical' for my ears. Rock, pop, classical, this amp handles them all in style. The SR5002 does what it is supposed to do, it has all the features you need, and sounds great whatever format...

I thought that buying a Marantz would be a good thing, and buying refurbished was a good deal.............NOT, I have had nothing but problems with this unit since i got it, my opinion of Marantz products is about as low as it can be. I would also NEVER buy a refurbished piece of electronics ever again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

B&W speakers complement this amp perfectly. For the price, a great amp.

5.0 out of 5 stars "EXCEEDED MY HIGH EXPECTATIONS", November 25, 2008
This review is from: Marantz SR5002 XM Ready Surround Sound Receiver (Electronics)
I first purchased an Onkyo 705. The Onkyo was very user friendly, and also had a few more bells and whistles. But I returned it because I was not happy with the "tinny" sound. Luckily, I stumbled on the Marantz. What a difference! This receiver has a very sweet sound. Music sounds great, with a warm full sound. Home theater is awesome too. I love it.

I purchased the Marantz SR5002 from Accessories for Less last November 08. I am handicapped and it took me almost five weeks to get a tech to install my system which is a 56" Pioneer LCD, PS3, Panasonic BD, and the Brighthouse cable box. When all was finally installed, we first tested the TV sound and it was intermittent; going off and on continuously, the tech tried different sound levels and there was an immediate crackling sound from the Bose speakers and the system went off. We waited several minutes and tried again with the same results. We turned the system on again to test the Panny BD using "The Dark Knight" and it sounded great. We tried several other BD's and they all looked and sounded great. We then tested the PS3 and it worked great with the three games I had. We put a BD disk in the PS3 and it sounded great. I guess I didn't need the Panny. We called Accessorties for Less and they told me I was too late to send it back to them since it had been over 30 days since I purchased it so we called Marantz and the tech I hired went throght all the tests the Marantz rep suggested. He said that there was a defect and to send it to their authorized warranty repair in Atlanta. I live in Tampa, FL. I couldn't belive that I had to send it to Atlanta and that there was no Marantz repair available in Florida. I sent it out and the unit was returned two weeks later. I had to wait a few weeks to get a tech over to re-install the system as I had been using a very old Sony receiver. The unit was still broken and had the same problems. I called Drake's in Atlanta complaining about my problems with the unit. They said to send it back. I never did. I had simply spent too much money on the Marantz and just stuck with the Sony. I am now ready to purchase again and am not sure what receiver to purchase next, but It will not be a Marantz. Believe me, this is a very abridged version of all the problems I experienced with the Marantz 5002. I did try switching out HDMI cords. I tried over ten different ones and tried using different settings but nothing helped to stop the crackling and the off and on sound problems. Hope all of you out there end up getting a system that works for you. Have a great day!

THe Marantz was the second non- working tuner i recieved from accessoreies 4 less It worked long enough to be covered by the warranty It was the most terrible expirence of shopping on the net i have ever had To make a long story short it took 6 months to get a replacement unit from marantz, meanwhile i bought a less expensive sony that works and sounds great The marantz is still in the box like they shipped it back to me
