Product Description

Product Description

The Marantz SR6008 7.2-channel Home Theater Receiver is an equal parts network powerhouse and sonic tour-de-force designed to be the heart of the modern home theater system. With Marantz's classic "star and circle" front display, the receiver offers both style and comprehensive features, including an Ethernet port, seven HDMI inputs, and playback of the latest high-definition audio formats. The SR6008 is equipped with DTS Neo:X and Audyssey DSX to create a 3D sound space when you set up speakers for the front height or front wide channels. With the addition of Marantz’s acclaimed Current Feedback and HDAM pre-amplifier circuitry, you can enjoy a clean, rich ambient sound. A second HDMI port on this receiver allows other people to enjoy audio/video or music entertainment in a separate room while you use the system in the main room. Two audio/video zones, networking, and support for Bluetooth devices make the SR6008 a flexible solution for home theater and music listening that's expandable, too.

HDAM Technology and Current Feedback

Multiple input options, including seven HDMI inputs with 4K Ultra HD and 3D pass-through. View larger.

Featuring Hyper Dynamic Amplifier Module (HDAM) technology, the SR6008 Network Home Theater Receiver delivers unparalleled sound clarity. HDAM technology provides an ultra-fast slew rate for true wideband response and maximum dynamic range to deliver optimum sound quality with today's high-resolution audio formats.

In addition to HDAM technology, the SR6008 also features current feedback instead of the typical voltage feedback configuration. Current feedback technology provides a wide closed-loop bandwidth and very high slew rate, delivering superior fidelity with wideband audio sources.

Expanded Suite of Audyssey Technologies

Audyssey MultEQ XT provides automatic room acoustic measurement and correction. Via the supplied microphone, the system analyzes sound from all the speakers (including the subwoofer) and generates precision digital filters for each channel to provide the smoothest, most natural tonal balance. With MultEQ XT, the sound from the speakers and the acoustics of the room are truly harmonized, something not possible with conventional frequency-only compensation.

Audyssey Dynamic EQ provides real-time acoustic compensation for a smooth, natural tonal balance at any listening level, and Audyssey Dynamic Volume tames loud jumps in sound level, such as commercials, for enjoyable listening even at reduced volume levels. The SR6008 is Audyssey Installer Pro ready.

Full Range of Network Sources

Designed for today's connected lifestyle, the SR6008 lets you enjoy a broad range of music streaming, with thousands of Internet radio stations from streaming music services including SiriusXM, Pandora, and Spotify (subscriptions required). The SR6008 is also DLNA 1.5 and Windows 8/RT compatible, letting you access your favorite audio content from your PC or Windows tablet via your home network.

Add the optional RX-101 Wireless Bluetooth Adapter to enjoy streaming music wirelessly from any Bluetooth-enabled smartphone or tablet.

Network-enabled so you can stream music via AirPlay, Pandora, Spotify, and SiriusXM Internet Radio. View larger.

Apple AirPlay

The SR6008 includes AirPlay, which lets you stream music from your iPod touch, iPhone, and iPad. It also lets you access your iTunes content on your PC or Mac via your home network.

Wide Range of Configuration Options

You can set the SR6008 up for a number of speaker configuration options, including adding front height or wide speakers for a dramatically expanded front soundstage, thanks to Audyssey DSX and DTS Neo:X decoding technologies. You can also configure it for 5-channel operation in the main room and connect a pair of speakers located in another room. These multi-zone options let you enjoy surround sound in one room while family members enjoy different digital audio in another.

The SR6008 can also be configured for front main (L/R) bi-amplified speaker operation if you own bi-amp-capable speakers.

Seven HDMI Inputs are 3D and 4K Ultra HD Compatible

With seven HDMI inputs (including one conveniently located on the front panel), you can connect a broad range of source components, and all HDMI inputs are 3D and 4K Ultra HD (3,840 by 2,160 pixels) compatible. There's an HDMI output for the main room and a second HDMI output that lets you send a different program to another room. With HDMI standby pass-through, the SR6008 lets you enjoy programs on your TV (such as newscasts) via your TV's speakers instead of the surround sound system's speakers.

The InstaPrevue function lets you monitor all your active HDMI sources via a multiple picture-in-picture preview function and switch between your favorite programs easily.

Setup Assistant for Easy Use

With the on-screen graphical display that combines large, clear text and colorful icons, it's quick and easy to optimize the SR6008 for your particular speaker configuration and source equipment. The Marantz setup assistant walks you through the whole process.

The Marantz Setup Assistant simplifies installation and allows you to optimize the SR6008 for your speaker setup. View larger.

The multi-way speaker connections on the rear panel are banana plug compatible and color coded for quick and easy connection, and the supplied color-coded speaker cable labels ensure correct speaker cable hookup the first time.

The included remote control features discrete source selection buttons that let you choose your preferred source with the touch of one button.

High-Power, 7-Channel Power Amplifier Design

For optimum sound quality, the SR6008 features identical power amp circuitry for all channels, including discrete power amplifier output stage design. Rated at 110 watts into 8 ohms for each of the 7 channels, the receiver provides high power and wide dynamic range with low distortion for superb surround sound.

Very good sound quality.

All the Marantz SR line SR5008, SR6008, SR7008 have a defect where they shut down if you want to crank it up a little bit for a short time.

If the receiver is within your budget, buy it!.

First of all, no, I didn't buy it on Amazon. My local Marantz dealer gave me a great deal on it.

I am familiar with Marantz as I had a SR5005 for two years. Great sounding piece but it was missing the modern features that I wanted. I sold the SR5005 and bought a Yamaha RX-V673. It had all the features I wanted but it was such a step down in sound quality that I only kept it for 7 weeks. So I sold the Yamaha and was looking at last year's SR6007 or the Denon AVR-3313CI. I went to my dealer to see if they had any deals on open box SR6007 but they didn't have any. Instead, they offered me the SR6008 for a great deal.

First, like the last 3 generations of the Marantz receivers, the 6008 is a beautiful looking piece of gear. Some people complain about the small porthole display but I don't mind it. All you have to do is press info on the remote and you see all the info you need to know.
The one disappointing thing is that the remote is not backlit like the remote of the 5005 was. I was bummed by that. Thankfully that is the only thing I don't like about the receiver.

There is plenty of inputs in the back for you to connect a ton of gear. So far I only use 3 HDMI ports. I have a HTPC, cable box, and an Xbox 360 hooked up to it. Marantz did a really nice thing by giving us a label sheet which has labels for all connections. You no longer need to think which wire is what should you decide to connect or disconnect anything from the receiver.

Setup was easy for me. I have had home theater systems since 1999 and have had many different receivers and speakers systems. But even for someone who is new to receivers, it should be easy and straight forward.

Now on to the network features. I tried Pandora and it works great.

Great, natural, sound. Not 'cartoony'. My one complaint is that you really need the remote to do most operations. Front-panel control is very limited.

For the price of the Marantz SR6008 there are many competitors with more features -- more HDMI inputs, built-in wifi and Bluetooth, remotes with more comprehensive controls... But ultimately, the most important feature, at least to me, is audio performance. And it's in audio performance that the SR6008 excels.

Not that it's exceptionally loud. I can't really tell that it's any louder than the RCA RT2600 it just replaced. Hell, any $200 budget receiver can make your junk sound bombastic like an irritating Best Buy demo. Indeed, the true measure of a receiver's quality is how it makes your media sound at low-to-mid volumes. And I believe the SR6008 makes my speakers sound as good as they can sound at any volume.

Audyssey XT helps here, measuring the distance from each speaker to the listening area, adding delays where appropriate, attenuating or boosting volume where appropriate, and working hard to make sure the sound from each speaker reaches your ears all at the same time with excellent equalization. The result is mesmerizing.

For movies, the receiver can employ 3 different levels of volume limiting, as well as boost the dialog above the other channels. This is a pleasant feature, useful for catching all the dialog without having to volume up and down constantly trying to find a balance between understanding whispered dialog and squashing explosions or loud commercials.

For music, well, I have a pair of somewhat anemic JBL ES20 bookshelf speakers running as my front mains. While they've got crisp, detailed highs and wide, well-spoken staging, they sounded a bit pinched in the mid-range on my previous receiver. Unfortunately, the Marantz receiver didn't produce any miracles there in pure direct mode.

Here's a few reasons to get this receiver that aren't clear in other reviews-

Allows you to do HDMI to analog zone 2. This is somewhat hard to find on other receivers. If it doesn't work for you, switch to PCM decoding on your cable box (in the advanced menu). There's also a setting in the receiver you should play with.

Make sure you check out the web interface on a laptop. The IP may be hard to find, but if you go to your DHCP list on your router, it will be there.

The IOS app is fairly responsive. Not perfect, but far better than the Pioneer app I had in the past.

HDMI control is awesome. We only need the cable remote to turn on the TV which automatically turns on the receiver. The TV volume control controls the receiver. You'll need a TV that supports this, and make sure it is enabled in the TV and receiver setup menu. It is typically off by default. My wife would buy this receiver for that feature alone. (She doesn't know there are cheaper ones out there that do the same thing).

There are a ton of fine tuning settings available for cross over points for both LFE, fronts, surround and they are all independent. Expect to spend many hours getting the perfect sound. It is good, not great, after Audyssey calibration in my opinion.

If you use your Airplay when the receiver is off, it will turn on and switch to the Airplay input. This is also a great feature for the wife.

4 stars because not all settings are available from my iPhone, and the app could be faster.
