HDAM Technology and Current Feedback
SR7008

Multiple input options, including seven HDMI inputs with 4K Ultra HD and 3D pass-through. View larger.

Featuring Hyper Dynamic Amplifier Module (HDAM) technology, the SR7008 Network Home Theater Receiver delivers unparalleled sound clarity. HDAM technology provides an ultra-fast slew rate for true wideband response and maximum dynamic range to deliver optimum sound quality with today's high-resolution audio formats.

In addition to HDAM technology, the SR7008 also features current feedback instead of the typical voltage feedback configuration. Current feedback technology provides a wide closed-loop bandwidth and very high slew rate, delivering superior fidelity with wideband audio sources.

Expanded Suite of Audyssey Technologies

Audyssey MultEQ XT32 provides automatic room acoustic measurement and correction. Via the supplied microphone, the system analyzes sound from all the speakers (including the subwoofer) and generates precision digital filters for each channel to provide the smoothest, most natural tonal balance. With MultEQ XT32, the sound from the speakers and the acoustics of the room are truly harmonized, something not possible with conventional frequency-only compensation.

Audyssey Dynamic EQ provides real-time acoustic compensation for a smooth, natural tonal balance at any listening level, and Audyssey Dynamic Volume tames loud jumps in sound level, such as commercials, for enjoyable listening even at reduced volume levels.

SR7008

Audyssey LFC (Low Frequency Containment) uses advanced psychoacoustic algorithms to generate a fuller tonal range, but with substantially reduced subwoofer output. This lets you enjoy late-night listening without bothersome deep bass leaking into adjacent rooms. Audyssey Sub EQ HT provides individual correction for dual-subwoofer setups. And, the SR7008 is Audyssey Installer Pro ready.

Full Range of Network Sources

Designed for today's connected lifestyle, the SR7008 lets you enjoy a broad range of music streaming, with thousands of Internet radio stations from streaming music services including SiriusXM, Pandora, and Spotify (subscriptions required). The SR7008 is also DLNA 1.5 and Windows 8/RT compatible, letting you access your favorite audio content from your PC or Windows tablet via your home network.

Add the optional RX-101 Wireless Bluetooth Adapter to enjoy streaming music wirelessly from any Bluetooth-enabled smartphone or tablet.

SR7008

Network-enabled so you can stream music via AirPlay, Pandora, Spotify, and SiriusXM Internet Radio. View larger.

Apple AirPlay

The SR7008 includes AirPlay, which lets you stream music from your iPod touch, iPhone, and iPad. It also lets you access your iTunes content on your PC or Mac via your home network.

Wide Range of Configuration Options

You can set the SR7008 up for a number of speaker configuration options, including adding front height or wide speakers for a dramatically expanded front soundstage, thanks to Audyssey DSX and DTS Neo:X decoding technologies. You can also configure it for 5-channel operation in the main room and connect a pair of speakers located in two other rooms. These multi-zone options let you enjoy surround sound in one room while family members enjoy different digital audio in up to two other rooms.

The SR7008 can also be configured for front main (L/R) bi-amplified speaker operation if you own bi-amp-capable speakers.

SR7008
Seven HDMI Inputs are 3D and 4K Ultra HD Compatible

With seven HDMI inputs (including one conveniently located on the front panel), you can connect a broad range of source components, and all HDMI inputs are 3D and 4K Ultra HD (3,840 by 2,160 pixels) compatible. There are dual main HDMI outputs for the main room, which lets you connect a flat screen TV and a video front projector. A third HDMI output lets you send a different program to another room. With HDMI standby pass-through, the SR7008 lets you enjoy programs on your TV (such as newscasts) via your TV's speakers instead of the surround sound system's speakers.

The InstaPrevue function lets you monitor all your active HDMI sources via a multiple picture-in-picture preview function and switch between your favorite programs easily.

SR7008

The Marantz Setup Assistant simplifies installation and allows you to optimize the SR7008 for your speaker setup. View larger.

Setup Assistant for Easy Use

With the on-screen graphical display that combines large, clear text and colorful icons, it's quick and easy to optimize the SR7008 for your particular speaker configuration and source equipment. The Marantz setup assistant walks you through the whole process.

The multi-way speaker connections on the rear panel are banana plug compatible and color coded for quick and easy connection, and the supplied color-coded speaker cable labels ensure correct speaker cable hookup the first time.

The included remote control features discrete source selection buttons that let you choose your preferred source with the touch of one button.

High-Power, 9-Channel Power Amplifier Design

For optimum sound quality, the SR7008 features identical power amp circuitry for all channels, including discrete power amplifier output stage design. Rated at 125 watts into 8 ohms for each of the 9 channels, the receiver provides high power and wide dynamic range with low distortion for superb surround sound.

I have reluctantly been searching for a new receiver the past year. My old Sony V444ES isn't going anywhere, I love that thing. But it's 14 years old and doesn't have HDMI. So my search began.

I am a budget-conscious audiophile. If I had a bigger budget I'd be buying the highest of the highest end for everything, but I generally try to find a sweet spot in the diminishing returns curve. But in the end, I want the best I can afford. Heahphone example: I own a pair of Sennheiser HD 600s and love them, so much so that I have never felt the need to upgrade to a higher end model (HD 700 or 800 or maybe a planar like Audeze) because I find them so perfectly balanced, and they were at the sweet point in the price range. So when I search for gear, I'm looking for the most bang for the buck. However, this is a tricky goal when it comes to Home audio equipment. So many additional application considerations, so much variety in the market.

Originally I was hoping to spend somewhere in the $400-$700 range for a new receiver. I figured that would be an upgrade over the Sony just based on new technology alone. I was wrong. New technology does not equal better sound, and most companies are throwing all the money at the bells and whistles and cutting corners in the components that actually push out the sound. If you are an audiophile (I assume you are if you found this corner of amazon), you know that sound comes first. I didn't realize how awesome my old Sony is until I auditioned other receivers on the exact same setup. The Sony was so well rounded. Accurate. Transparent. Terrific soundstage(s), which were selectable. Excellent Dynamics and Presence. And most of all, REALISTIC and MUSICAL. That's what I was looking for really...

I was waiting for a receiver of this quality on this price point for a long time. Marantz did a fantastic job this time adding XT32 and SubEQ HT in this AVR. My system never sounded this good. Bass response is flat in the all listening area and my speakers are very well balanced. I was between this and the Denon AVR-X4000, but I decided towards the SR7008 because its look and the 7.1 ch analog input. Next week I'm gonna run Audyssey again after add a second Rythmik Audio F12SE subwoofer into my system. But like I mentioned before with just one F12SE the bass is flat all around my living room. 100% recommended. It's worthy of every $$$$ I paid for it!!!

I purchased this receiver to replace an Onkyo TX-NR818 that failed after only 14 months. I bought the Marantz for reliability but had no idea a receiver could sound so much better. The clarity and headroom of the SR7008 defy the specs! Articulate and powerful! I didn't think separate sub EQ would make such a noticeable difference as my Hsu ULS15s are positioned symmetrically but it does.

My only complaint is when pushed, this thing gets warm and there is no internal fan.

If your on the fence...Jump on the Marantz!

I purchased this receiver to replace my Onkyo TX707 which was working great, no problems, I just wanted to be able to use HDMI audio in my 2nd zones (which the Onkyo could not do). I was going back and forth between the Denon and the Marantz for about a month before I decided on the Marantz. The Denons had lots of great features and it was a hard decision to make but there were just too many negative reviews on the Denons. Right off the bat I can tell that the Marantz decodes surround signals much better than the Onkyo did. As far as actual sound quality/level I don't find THAT much of a difference from my Onkyo. I'm running CM class B&W speakers and an SVS PB-12 Ultra subwoofer. I like all the options for Front height & wide along with zones 2 & 3 (of course not all at the same time). I have yet to use the zone 2 HDMI video but I will in the future. I love that I can listen to HDMI audio in my other zones, I like having full control from my phone in other parts of my house. I was disappointed that it did not have WiFi and I would think a Receiver at this level should have it. Because I don't have an ethernet port close to my receiver I purchased a Power line Wifi transmitter ($60) and that seems to be working good, I can stream internet radio, Pandora and Sirius without issue. Although I do find that AirPlay is a little weak wired this way, I can go MUCH further around my house with my Apple TV than I can with the Marantz AirPlay.

The Pros and Cons that I have found so far (about 3 weeks in).

Pros:
1) Really great surround decoding
2) Setup was SUPER simple and very effective.

I have had Denon, Axiom, Onkyo, Integra, and Emotiva. I dislike the Denon due what I can describe as a high end cut off causing the sound to be very flat and dull. The Axiom was powerful but... dull. The Emotiva was also exceptionally power and smooth, but lacked deep end. Both the Onkyo and the Integra was the same and very good - however, their customer service lacked so much it got me worried so I dumped the product. I really enjoyed the Yamaha it had a beautiful sound quality to it was open, airy yet had punch. My only person complaint was it lacked Dolby Height (this may not be an issue for most). Yamaha does have their own version called "presence", for both front and back - but it just wasn't what I was looking for. That's why I thought I give the Marantz a try. It was the best decision. The tonal quality is light and open with a tremendous lower end that is precise. I really like the features and the variety of sound choices, including Dolby Height as well as a "width". Yes, it is pricy but very much worth it.
