5.0 out of 5 stars Marathon makes Halo look silly, April 17, 2011
= Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This review is from: Marathon Trilogy (Mac) (CD-ROM)
Released in 1994 "Marathon" was the very first FPS to use "mouse pointing" to target enemies onscreen, and was lauded by critics for its ingenious story and puzzles. Compared to Bungie's later games it doesn't have the great graphics or advanced physics that games like "Halo 3" flaunt, but then again "Halo" doesn't really bother too much with really giving you deep backstory or details on its characters and events.

"Marathon 2: Durandal" continues the story and gameplay style of "Marathon", but in bigger, brighter and badder arenas with new element (like water) added to the game.

"Marathon Infinity" finishes up the plot of the first two with a complicated non-linear adventure to save the universe from a chaotic evil first featured in "Pathways Into Darkness", an even earlier Bungie game included in this set. "Infinity" uses incomprehensible plot elements and a good load of time travel to finish off the trilogy in a way only "Marathon" could.

If you have a Mac, or even just a Mac emulator, this series is a must have.
