5.0 out of 5 stars It worked for me!
We have a very willful, active golden retriever puppy that we wanted to have obedience training without breaking her spirit. Maray's KISS Method was the perfect answer. The lessons were simple, effective and we immediately saw results. Ms. Ayres provided insight into how a dog learns and responds to human interaction, which has helped us immensely in dealing with...

I have watched several dog training videos, and this one was
terrible.

As mentioned in a previous review, it was painfully
obvious that the dogs were already trained before the camera started
rolling. Dogs were sitting before the command was given, etc etc etc.
It would have been worthwhile if she was actually using untrained dogs
to demonstrate her techniques.

Also, she is very annoying to listen
to. She talks to the dogs in the squeaky childlike voice that
irritated me so much it took me several viewings to watch the entire
video.

She was also very obvious about name dropping. She didn't
just use any dogs, she made a point of saying "We are at Richard
Dreyfus' house and this is his dog...We are at Art Lincletter's house
and this is his dog".

Finally, she uses the classic negative
reinforcement technique (choke collar) method for training. I have
started using a positive reinforcement program with my dog that has
been very beneficial. (...)

All in all, I did not like this video.

The lessons were simple, effective and we immediately saw results. Ms. Ayres provided insight into how a dog learns and responds to human interaction, which has helped us immensely in dealing with our dog. It was also helpful to watch Maray work with dogs that had some previous training-it gave us an excellent model for our own lessons. We didn't buy the video as proof that Ms. Ayres could train dogs, but to learn how to work with our own dog. In addition, we loved the safety tips and drills included with the video. Not only do we feel better equipped to handle anything with our dog, but also we have learned how to do it without stressing out the dog or ourselves!

1.0 out of 5 stars how awfull, May 8, 2000

these (movie star/celebrities) dogs were obviously previously trained. As she was giving the 'sit' command, she would say it as the dog was already starting to sit on its own. she would do all trainings within a 6 foot radius. Even my 13 week old puppy will come to me when I am 4 feet away and have her on a leash yanking. It is when she is farther away that I want to be able to get her to come... In closing - this is the worst video for any 'special interest' I have ever seen. This film provided absolutely no usefull content as far as training a dog. It should have been named- 'common sense with dogs'.

I suggest a book called Dogwise by John Fisher of another of his books, Think Dog, and Owners Guide to Dog Psychology. These books start with the basics of how dogs think, and how you can use positive reinforcement to train your dogs as effectively.

All in all, I did not like this video.

I purchased this video for my Nephew so he would learn how to train his new dog. He followed the instructions, and now he has a well trained and behaved pet.

I read one review that was not very flattering. I think the reviewer forgot the video was made to teach people how to train their pets. Its not a video on dog tricks.

My Dachshund and I fought the good fight until I bought Maray Ayres video. It answered all my questions and demonstrated exactly what I needed to do. Lily and I are now completely trained! I can't recommend this video highly enough!

We are so happy with this video as it is the first one we have purchased that we could follow and it was as thought Snoopy was watching it also. The love and care made it esay to keep up and we wanted to view the video over and over again.

5.0 out of 5 stars JUST WHAT I NEEDED AT THE TIME I NEEDED IT!, October 9, 2000
This review is from: Maray's KISS Method: Obedience Dog Training and Safety Drills complete with an instructional booklet [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I adopted my dog Sandy from the local Humane Society. Two years old and terribly abused. She avoided me as much as possible and I needed help. I obtained Maray Ayres' video and followed the instructions given. Today Sandy is a lovable, well trained dog. I was fortunate enough to meet Ms. Ayres, and found her to be not only very attractive but extremely loving in her handling of the dogs being trained. She pointed out that in the video she does not advocate general use of the choke collar, in fact, I observed that she handles dogs very gently, but firmly. I absolutely recommend this video to all dog owners.
